The past couple of days I have noticed people mentioning Facebook was going to add a dislike button. Others saying not true. Do you know if Facebook is getting a dislike button or not? Would you want a dislike Button on Facebook? How do you think a Facebook button will affect members?

I have never in a million years liked the thought of a "dislike button" on Facebook. I know that the intention is for those sad posts or bad posts about something happening that you jsut do not feel rigth saying "oh I like that" but seriously I know that the dislike button is only going to be used as a negative way when someone posts something that should be good or motivate them. It is going to take cyber bullying to the next step....I really hope they do not add that feature.

yes, i have seen people use dislike buttons on other social media sites. It does cause hard feelings and damages friendships.

@rusty2rusty Not to mention it is really hard to know what someone meant by using the button. I honestly feel they are going to have a lot of issues if they decide to put that on there as a feature. Maybe an option where the poster can allow dislikes or not might be better but even them im not sure.

I've been hearing this for some time but it never seems to happen. I think it would be more trouble that it's worth. People might use it to disrespect people and their comments. I suppose it might be a good idea if someone posts something sad just to show that you've read it and want to sympathise with the poster.

That is what I fear. I also wonder if it will be away for Facebook to experiment if a post should be deleted or not.

May be it is because this is in news all over and not just an FB spread hoax. However now this will be in use like old myLot's - rating

I remember when Mylot had the dislike button. Someone would get angry and go on a dislike spree.

It's been all over the news. Personally I don't take much notice of Facebook.

I have heard talk. Nothing confirmed as to exactly what yet.

It's so unnecessary, in my opinion. I can imagine a lot of petty quarrels going on when people start using the dislike button. Personally it wouldn't make any difference to me since I doubt I'll be using it anyway.

I don't think i would use it either. Not unless I see something racist come across my feed. I think I have blocked or at least stopped all those.

I heard that it is but I can't say for certain. I feel like a dislike button would be misused. I could see the use for it. If I post that I've had a bad day or something bad has happened people don't like to "like" it because they feel like they're liking your misery. In those cases people would probably use a dislike button as in "I dislike that something bad has happened to you" But I feel like some people would dislike good things just to be jerks or whatever.

I can see the dislike button being abused. As I have on other sites.

Despite the fact I have very little to do with Facebook, I've heard the same rumors as everyone else. There are whispers Facebook may in fact be adding a dislike button. Granted, this isn't the first time I've heard this rumor, it's been going on for years and years. It just seems like a bad idea all around. Facebook, much like any huge community, can attract a lot of the worst aspects of people. Giving someone a dislike button, you might as well put a mallet in a person's hand so they can bash the people they hate. Just seems to give some people a license to troll and bully. I can't think of one good reason how it would be used otherwise. And these people don't need a reason, but do we really need to give them any more incentive?

There are many trolls and bullies on Facebook already. The dislike button will give them more power. Which isn't good.
