I certainly understand what you mean. On Twitter for example, there are people following me, I don't follow in return if they represent groups

I have been yes, and the reason I do is to get more discussions to respond to. I haven't seen all that many good discussions lately, at least ones that interest me anyway. Now, I hope that more members join so they can help with the discussions as well.

@kevin1877uk It is true though, as there are times when discussions are just not there, so having to follow other users, has helped me find discussions to respond to.

I don't do it, I have to be honest. In fact, I don't even receive notifications about who has started following me, so it is difficult to see when I have new followers.

@kevin1877uk yes, I disable that on the settings, maybe I will have to turn it on. But still I don't want to follow EVERYONE.

@kevin1877uk Its just been a day here for me :) So only a handful following me n I dont know them... I am following them as by time we can know each other thru discussions n interactions. Guess this is the only way to stay here for long...
Most importantly, they are from different parts of the world, with different thoughts, cultures, so overall I will only learn something from them... :)

When I first registered with Mylot some 9 years ago, I was eager to build a list of members to follow and added anyone who followed me. After a short while I amended the list.
There is no real benefit in blindly following large numbers. If someone usually posts on a particular topic or subject that does not appeal to me then why bother to follow?
There are also many who connect with everyone in order to boost responses, which does not interest me. The whole idea of following is to make it easy to keep track of friends, but adding too many makes it unmanageable.
On my recent return to Mylot I deleted the whole list of followers and began anew because the list was well out of date.

@kevin1877uk Starting anew seemed logical to me because I was unaware who was still active here. Naturally I added you once I encountered this post because I know you and know that you submit articles that I can interact with, but obviously the process is rather slow.
I am currently in Turkey and therefore not online a great deal, but will make more progress from Monday when I return to England.

I do not. Very selective about whom to follow and how much load of posts I can handle daily. Then there are some I look out for, whether or not following them...

No. I don't follow everyone that follows me. And for good reason. One is, I have to see if I get along with him first. If I start seeing them respond to my posts and we gel, or if I comment on their posts. If we get along, then I will follow back. You I know from another site, so right away I followed you. I am going to try and streamline my connections here and work it forward as time goes by.

@kevin1877uk Exactly. I take it slow. I learned my lesson with connections years ago.

@kevin1877uk Two days ago I followed someone, then I read his post and it was plagiarized. I blocked him and reported to the Admin.

I do follow everyone, but the truth is, I go to my discussions first and see who has commented on my posts. I also go to Explore a lot.

no I'm sorry I do not follow everyone who follows me... I read a couple of their posts to try and get a ' feel for' them... so I know if I will be able to relate to them in discussions....
