That Special Gift

I am always one who tries to find unique gifts for people. Two years ago around Christmas time, my brother was talking about the things our Mom used to collect. Our Mom collected salt and pepper shakers when we were growing up and my brother also picked it up. There was one particular salt and pepper shaker that she had and my brother kept talking about it and wishing he had taken it when she passed away. So, the next day I spent all day long trying to see if I could possibly find it online. I really thought I might find it on eBay but it wasn't there. I did find it on Etsy and bought it. I was so excited. My brother was so happy and surprised when he opened that gift. He actually had tears in his eyes. He received other gifts from me but that was his favorite and still is. The picture included is the salt and pepper shaker. I know some may look at it and think what a lame gift but it meant so much to him that it touched my heart.

I think it was an awesome and thoughtful gift, because it took your time and effort to find it. That gift is a clear indication that you listen to him. What a compliment to him.

@GardenGerty He means a lot to me and if he mentions something more than once, I know that is want he wants and I will try and find it for either Christmas or birthday.

I certainly don't think it's a lame gift at all, it's lovely. I'm not surprised that your brother was delighted, you'd shown so much thought in getting it.

@simone10 I think that is the cutest salt and pepper shaker. Your brother is lucky you found it. Nice to have special memories. I agree that gifts that go to the heart are the ones the mean the most. When my mom and I lived in NYC I always tried to get meaningful gifts for her. What I did was that as the year went on and she mentioned something she really wanted I started searching through catalogs to see if I could find the item and order it way before Christmas. It was a difficult task. Remember this was before computers but I managed to get at least 2 or 3 meaningful items.

@RasmaSandra I think those are the best gifts to give and receive. It shows that a lot of thought went into shopping for it.

It doesn't matter if it is a large gift or a small one and what you pay for it is of no consequence either if it is something that is special to the one you give it to. One year I found out that a family member had been wanting to buy a sharks tooth a certain type but didn't have enough money for one so I found one on line on ebay and bought it for her for Christmas, she went absolutely bonkers over it.

I was worried that I wouldn't be able to find it because it is really old. I was so luck that I found it on etsy. If it hadn't been for the computer, I never would have been able to get it for him.

It is so cute! My aunt used to collect salt and pepper shakers, she had them on a shelf near the table and it was no man's land, I had to really watch my little guys and was so afraid they would knock the whole thing down. What a wonderful gift you gave to him, he will have no many memories form this.

What would be a reasonably cheap, good and useful gift for my teen-aged daughter? The gist should motivate her to be more confident in life and determined to achieve her goals.
