Do let me know if you think that poetry is not right for discussions but I added this poem because it tells of Sundays when they were not just ordinary days. Do you remember a time when Sundays were special and every store was closed and a great many people went to church? Do you think that Sundays should be different from the other days in the week? Sunny Sunday mornings that in my memory shine of quiet streets and church bells ringing dad and I out in the early morn when the sun rays feel so fine no one about just the two of us dad buying the newspapers me tagging along in that quiet square pigeons everywhere enjoying this quiet Sunday that was to be treasured I’d look up above at white clouds floating by spread my little arms and give a little shriek of joy now Sundays have become just regular days shops no longer closed missing those old-fashioned days still remember how it was when people went to church instead of heading for the mall special kinds of Sundays now just a memory Picture of little me

Sunday was the worst day of the week when I was a child. I was packed off to Sunday School very unwillingly, whilst Mum & Dad had a lie in. Sunday lunch was OK, but of bit of a ritual and very inflexible. We could not have Shepherds Pie on a Sunday as it was not the done thing. There was very little chance of going out to play, as everybody had to be quiet on a Sunday. The shops were all closed too and the TV was rubbish... I still don't like Sunday's very much even to this day, though they are very different now.

I loved Sunday mornings as it used to be a holiday and fresh day to play in front of you.But evenings were hurtful as thought of going to school early in the morning crossed my mind!! So Sunday used to be a mixed bunch of bag for me

@TGRWortzel I stopped enjoying Sundays when they became ordinary and I had to go to work the next day. You had Sunday school but I had Saturday school. Latvian school was in session on Saturdays so my Sundays were still free.

I LOVE poetry!! As a Jewish boy in the Bronx our Sundays consisted of bagels, lox and cream cheese along with the New York Times and then later in the day go down to the lower east side where my grandmother made dinner for her 8 children and all their spouses and children. Then grandfather would take the kids for a walk along Orchid street where we would dip our fingers (no plastic gloves!) to fish out the biggest pickle we could get. We knew we were all grown up when he would take the older kids to Katz's Deli for a corned beef sandwich while an aunt would collect all the young kids and take them back to grandmother who would give them each a penny! Thanks for bringing back the memories!

You welcome @GreatMartin and thank you for the short tour of NYC. I have had many breakfasts with warm bagels, lox and cream cheese and I have to say that is a breakfast made in heaven. Miss that so much and corned beet and pastrami sandwiches and pickles in barrels. Amazing how much we have in common and we are Lutheran but my dad always loved to shop in the Jewish groceries because the food was so good and reminded him of the natural and home-made foods from Latvia. You just gave me an idea for a discussion about things that were so great in childhood. It will be coming up soon and thanks for the inspiration.
