After school today it was gorgeous out and I promised to take my kids to play at the school. I am still not feeling well but I grabbed a mountain dew I had in the fridge and we headed out the door. At the school my daughters friend was there and my two kids and the other girl had a great time playing. My daughter got a burst of confidence with her friend there and just took off riding really well. Usually she will not ride at all in front of others which is why she is 11 and still hasn't learned to ride a bike without training wheels until now. She was so proud of herself and kept talking about it the rest of the night how fun it was and how she can't wait to do it again. She asked me how it felt when I saw her riding her bike lol. I am very proud of her. Tomorrow is my niece's birthday party but I am going to try to take my kids to the school to play again at some point. I probably won't be on mylot over the weekend so I will have to catch up to everyone's comments and posts on Monday. I'm going to go shower and hopefully fall asleep soon.

My son is 10 now and has a bike he only tried to ride once. He is afraid of falling. It was bought 2 or 3 years ago it probably is to small for him now and was a waste of money

I spent so much time riding a bike when I was young. I loved it and it is great exercise. There is not many areas to ride a bike here is a hard part for learning.

@shaggin That is too bad he is afraid of falling. I loved riding a bike when I was young and as a young adult. Now, I am old and afraid of falling.

I was a late learner. I think fear has a lot to do with it. I am glad that she has this new skill. I am sure she feels on top of the world.

I was a late learner as well. Fear was definitely part of it, but mostly I just didn't want to be helped (or watched for that matter). I wanted to learn how to ride a bike on my own.

Fear definitely had a lot to do with it! Both of my kids are very scared of falling. My son is 7 and has only ridden his new bike once. Even though it has training wheels it still is tipsy and he just won't try it enough to learn to ride. He will when he is ready. He has a bike when he does decide he wants to ride it. It is kept in a shed so it will stay like new until he is ready to ride it or outgrows it and I wind up selling it. Cold weather will be here soon so maybe next year he will be willing to give it a try again.

She had to wait for her confidence and I am sure that her confidence is much greater having conquered her fear and ridden without the training wheels. That's an important step.

Congrats to her! I believe I started riding without training wheels when I was around her age.

She is getting a little daring today. I took her to ride it and she was weaving in circles and I was scared she was going to fall and get hurt. I was messing around on my bike when I was 8 or so and had the training wheels removed. I was doing tight S's like my sister but I was being more careless and daring. I fell and chipped my two front adult teeth. I had to go to the dentist and have them shaved down. I wish they were still longer as I grind my teeth and they are a lot shorter then they would have been.
