To maintain good health it is important that we take time off for some breathing exercises. Any health site will show you how. But have you tried singing? When we sing we need to fill up our lungs - and there is the inhale exhale activity. Choose a song that has atleast two octaves or you can merely sing the notes 'Do Re Me Fa Sol La Ti in two octaves back and forth. Ofcourse you can do it in the bathroom as not everyone would be in a mood to listen to you breathing exercises.

No, I have not tried singing as a form of breathing exercises, but, I will definitely be sticking to the shower, if I tried this, to save peoples ears. :-)

@bluesa I have said that I like singing but I do not have a good voice. I was in the choir but there since it was group singing my voice was tolerated.

I am not sure I have a sufficient range to sing two full octaves. I breathe almost all the time, though.

@allknowing I sing all the time, without provocation, without invitation. I hear a word and it reminds me of a song. I know songs of today and a hundred years ago and more. If I sing any more than I already do, they'll stuff me in a trash bag and put me out for Monday collection.

We all breathe all the time but that is shallow breathing. We need to fill our lungs and exhale which singing helps. Try one octave.

Too bad I think singing won't help me exercise my lungs. Somehow I find it hard to breath too deeply when singing. Maybe I should do more cardio instead or yoga or something.

@allknowing My problem is I don't want to sing where lots of people can hear me. I don't want to do a whole "concert" and bother my neighbors.

If you keep trying with just one octave and may be with the basic notes it will l help you a lot. No doubt yoga will help. I do pranayama.

When I want to exercise my breathing, I just take a deep breath in and let it out. In fact, I do that constantly throughout the day just to keep in practice.

@allknowing Well yeah, I mean haven't you ever been so out of breath that you just get dizzy and a little bit silly, especially after laughing. Besides, if you heard me trying to whistle, then you would laugh, too!

I just don't understand it. Why should you whistle, and then think you are silly and laugh away, unless breathing does all that to you!

I am not good with singing, my voice is terrible. I like breathing exercices though, my dad used to show me some when I was a child and I still do them sometimes.

@allknowing It surely helps, singers have a great breathing, and they need to exercise it every day. It also relaxes the muscles around the face which is beneficial for us. I wish I had some knowledge of music and a better voice.
