yes @Shyamalaa I agree with you on this, what to do Indian sweets have so much of sugar in them, if eaten as and when liked, women may gain extra pounds, which is very difficult to get rid off...

Ah... ummm.. hmmm...well.. my mother is most sweet crazy in our house, I can vouch that! And while initially I resisted sweets, making all kind of faces, I like them now.
My take: men are always worried that diabetes is gonna get them one day and hence they try to savor the taste till they can. In case diabetes does find them, well that is the guilty pleasure!
I'd rather let them.

Bad boy. lol. There is no difference between men and women preferring it I suppose. Except that we women develop taste for other things because we are often in kitchen pushing something or the other in mouth so when we are approving taste of our cooking or those of our mothers, mind is registering that. In the process, we are fine with other tastes, and sweet seems only seems to be less preferred variety. Sweets can be addictive if you start eating them everyday simply because your body wants to do less work too and sugar is easy to break down. But avoiding sugar completely is also not good, because sugar plays some role in keeping your neurotransmitters active. In other words, long term avoidance of sugar can increase the speed of your dementia or alzhiemer's, at least that is what I read. The best way to avoid diabetes is to keep active - physically. Avoiding sweets can come later when it is no longer possible to remain very active physically.

@kevin1877uk ..the picture that you see with this post, is rasagulla. It is made by squeezing some lemon in boiling milk, so that the milk splits into two different parts. The liquid is thrown away, the solid part is then drained some more and made into round balls with some essence, and small quantity of sugar. After this comes the most dangerous part. It is boiled in sugar syrup so that sugar seeps into it. It tastes really nice, but if you eat too much of it, you've had it. It has a brown cousin. That is made from milkpowder (we get freshly dried up milk here). Again round balls are made. These balls are first deep fried in butter oil. After that they are boiled in sugar syrup. The sugar syrup determines how much sugar you are getting into your body. It is called Gulab jamun because rose essence is used, and the color resembles Indian black berry (not really).

I have noticed its opposite . I've found that women have sweet tooth rather than men and they love to relish sweet dishes, desserts and chocolates/pastries etc. Given the choice, I take less quantity of sweet dishes be it Rasgulla or Kaju Katli.

@ashuli - You are right it is better to restrict consumption of sweets in our daily diets. However, consuming little bit of sweets is also prescribed by Doctors because sugar has carbohydrates and carbohydrates are good source of energy and we require some energy to perform our tasks. Needless to say that excess of everything is bad, so we should not indulge in excess consumption of sweets. I can understand that we people (read Indians) get to enjoy more sweets during festivals.

I haven't noticed this. Perhaps--since it's traditional that men would by candy for women (sweets for the sweet)--it's seen as 'gay' to go crazy for candy, so--with it starting to be 'okay to be gay' more-&-more--candy-crazy men are less "ashamed." I don't know.

@ashuli I don't think only men love sweets , women children also love it .
Sweet intake makes one happy naturally .
There are other flavours like spicy , salty , bitter .
The six flavours including sweet is made by God for us ..
The topic is also sweet

My husband loves his goodies especially after he eats, but so do I and I am trying to get more weight off. So this is frustrating for me as I can't punish him cause he doesn't gain any weight no matter what he eats as he is pretty active. I do power walking exercises every day which is definitely helping me get weight off but the sweets are making the whole process longer to do. I pray and ask God to help me, if it weren't for Him I wouldn't have lost 51 pounds this past year

@ashuli I have an article called "Weight Loss Through Prayer". In case you can't find it I'll share the main things that work. I became desperate before God and last August I pleaded with Him to help me and He has. Of course you have to have a relationship with Him. If you don't here's your opportunity not to just lose weight but to know if you were to die today you'd go to heaven, but first: John 3:16 For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whoever believes in Him will not perish (go to hell) but have eternal life. So you have to believe in Jesus and ask Him to forgive your sins and talk to Him like He's your best friend. Also I signed up with a weight loss center that I basically get weighed in each 6-8 weeks. They give you some tips but I have been following the Lord's leading and I have a 30 minute power walking I do each day. Only 30 minutes of exercise a day, well I break it up on Tuesdays and Saturdays I'll do the 40 minute power walk. The DVD is by Leslie Sonome she's on youtube. I'll be glad to answer any questions.

Sorry, I don't agree. It's a matter of personal likes and dislikes. My mother is more attached to sweetmeats than my father. On the other hand, I like sweets much more than my wife.

@ashuli So, we can state that there must be no differentiation on the basis of gender for sweetmeats. If you like it, have it (till diabetes enters your body!).

Ummm, i feel like i'm outnumbered with all the feminist commentators here ( just kidding, im a feminist myself Woohoo! Women Power yeah!! ) But i guess its coz, men just dont care how they look after a certain age and time. They just wanna enjoy a nice rasgulla and gulabjamun. Calories? What's that?
