I am back to my virtual world, after two busy days due to the guests who attended our Sunday lunch. I am glad that, despite my fears, the lunch has been a success. The wife of our friend has appreciated everything I prepared, it has been a great and pleasant surprise. My friends brought as gift the beautiful purple orchid that you can see in the picture. I have no experience of potted orchids, I do not even know the proper frequency of watering and if they need a sunny spot or shade. I am going to search online, but if you have some tips to share I will be glad to learn from you.

@Tampa_girl7 @rebelann I am sorry that I missed to reply to this comment. My orchid is still alive and it bloomed again the past Spring.

@SIMPLYD This is the reason why I avoid to keep potted flowers inside the house, for a reason or another they die after a few weeks.

It is awesome. Though I do not have any experience in this and I can't really give you tips, I believe we all should stop those bouquet gifts, and opt to give a living plant instead as I am concerned about population of bees. One more thing, I could not understand "...I waited for a Sunday lunch". I have never come across such expression so far. At first I thought that should have been "at", but it was still a bit unusual for me.

@LadyDuck ..Neither is English my mother tongue. I enjoy interacting because it hopefully will improve my language. As can be seen from above you used "potted plant" which is the right expression, and I used "living plant", which is wrong. :)

Those are not cut flowers, it is a potted plant and they must stay inside in our country because outside is too cold. English is not my mother language, I sure make some mistakes.

OH wow lucky you.. I love orchids. Since I live in a tropical climate I water every other day. I feed my plants every other week. I mist them lightly almost every day during the hottest part of the day. I keep mine on a sunny window.. but not under the direct sun.

@LadyDuck You have resources right near you. May be he will let you into his secret sometime. They are slightly fussy plants but worth all the trouble. The flowers last and last for months and I have one which keeps putting out five or six stalks of flowers. Its amazing.,

Thank you so much for those useful tips. I have put them on the right window. I have to remember to mist them. One of my neighbor is a fan of orchids, he have a greenhouse full of orchids. I should pay him a visit.

Good Morning Anna - I am pleased your Sunday went well - now I find myself in the kitchen getting ready for the BRITISH Ballet examiner to arrive tonight - Examine Ballet tomorrow and I must feed her all kinds of goodies - 5 meals altogether.

Oh poor Lany, five meals are a lot of food to prepare. I have some leftover from yesterday, for a couple of days no cooking for me. Good luck with your Ballet.

Orchids are not the easiest plants but I think you need to avoid over watering. It is a beautiful plant that is for sure.

Val, after they were gone, I felt so tired, I believe it was the end of the stress. At least now I know what she likes. I have wrote in my agenda what I served. The next time I will be less stressed.

They're very pretty! And the vase matches the color of the orchids, too. I don't have orchids myself, but most of the species that I've read about require partial sunlight. You can look up more information about orchid care tips online, there are so many resources.

I have noticed that they choose a vase that matches the orchids. I have found many tips online, it would be a shame to kill those beautiful flowers.

I found something, I am trying to find a place where to keep the pot, it seems it needs full light, but not direct sun. In winter this is becoming a problem here. The days are short and grey.

What a lovely thoughtful gift for you. I usually buy my wife orchids as she likes them so much. I do have one tip for you Anna. Never let me look after them for you as I forget to water them if you were on holiday. Although I might remember the day before you get back?

How wonderful that you were able to please the picky eater. The orchid is beautiful, but I am afraid I don't know anything about them at all. I hope you find good information, it would be a shame if it didn't thrive.

I'm really glad that everything went well with the meal, I know how worried you were. That's a lovely orchid, but I don't know anything about them. Someone gave me one once, and I chucked it out once the flowers were done. Apparently I should have kept it as it would flower again.
