Did Google ever Really Leave China

From what I understand Google did exit China five years ago but they never really left completely. Google Analytics the largest web analytics service in the world – has continued to actively operate in China to this day. The Analytics service allows website operators to “analyse visitor traffic and paint a complete picture of the audience and their needs.” This is a free service even in China. Google Analytics has continued to transmit data across the Great Firewall despite other services being blocked—something that is unlikely an accident for either Google or Chinese internet regulators.

I didn't know this. Pretty interesting. I'll have to read up on it to find out what's going on.

I never fully understood why the Chinese government wanted to get involved with internet companies anyway? They allow the big Mac why not an internet search engine? When it comes to access to markets China is very interested.
