Even worse news on the VW Beetle

I dropped the Volkswagen Beetle off at the garage on Wednesday. The owner of the garage just called me about an hour ago to let me know what they found. I got some really crappy news.
He said that they ran it through the computer as well as looked in the transmission which was all junked up and just the way its acting he said that it has an internal transmission problem. He said that they did one about a year ago and it was about $4500 to fix. Wow that's about twice the cost I ever even paid for any of my vehicles lol
Needless to say I will not be putting that much cost into a wrecked vehicle. He said there is a lot of others things wrong with it as well that it wouldn't pass inspection. So now I guess I will have to have someone take me out vehicle shopping.
I'm hoping for a 2005 or newer minivan around $4000.

That's the problem with modern cars. They are far too complicated and very expensive to repair when things go wrong. Not like the original VW Beetle, which a Blacksmith could probably repair...

That is very true! Things are just not made as well as they used to be. That includes so many things not just cards. Things used to be built to last. Now they are build to be low cost and they don't worry about the quality as much. With cards they want them to be lighter and faster. Living in Pennsylvania the rock salt in the winter eats the metal and makes it rust. The frame on my van got bent badly from hitting a huge pothole on the highway. It makes it even harder for cars to last in this area. Hopefully I will be going Friday to look for a new minivan.

@shaggin Have you tried going to another place to have a look at your car ? $4500 ?? As you say you can probably buy the care twice with that money. And not all new cars are made badly but i hear what you are saying.
I also know what you mean about the rust. My cousins live by the coast and you have to clean your car and wax it often often due to the humidity.
And why may i ask are you going from a small car to a minivan ?

@XtremeGaming I actually havent had a car in about 10 years. I have always driven a van. My dad had bought this wrecked vehicle to fix up and never got around to it and bought a different vehicle. He said if I paid for the repairs I could have it. He said it would be around $1500 at the most. That was before we knew the transmission is going.
I actually have a van right now but the water pump is bad and the frame is bent and everything is all rusted so its not worth fixing. I can only go about 2 miles right now before it gets hot and will overheat. So I need another van. I hate small vehicles. I was dreading driving a small car like the VW which is only 4 seats. I was only going to do it because it would save me so much money.
This guy that I take my car to is the cheapest around and honest. If it costs that much there it would be even more somewhere else. The parts for this car are extremely expensive. My dad bought used transmission years ago and had them put it in and I think they charged $1000.
