It is quite natural to need more water in California, where the climate is usually warm and dry, than in the UK , where it is generally cool and moist.
The "8 to 10 glasses (approximately 2 litres)" a day is largely a myth and is only a very approximate measure of what one actually needs.
Actual water consumption depends on one's body weight, one's level of activity and the climate. Also most people quoting this figure do not take into account the amount of water included in food. It is normally quite enough to drink when you feel thirsty but if you anticipate a period of activity or of excessive heat, to take more water beforehand.

I take at least 6 liters of water everyday. I try to keep a bottle of drinking water with me every time or wherever I am. I know drinking water helps us digest food and it makes our skin glow and it helps us in purification of our inner system. I love to take plain water and avoid soft drinks or canned juices etc. What about you?

@ashuli - Normally a bottle of 1 litre of water contains two and half normal glass of water. Now you could calculate.
I think if you take 12-15 glass of water, it is fine.

I have been neglecting myself on this these days. As at now, I would say I am drinking only around 4 - 6 glasses of liquid. I must increase this soon.

@ashuli Believe me, it isn't easy in the summer. The heat just seems to zap my strength not to mention it is hard to stay hydrated, as I drink and drink, and it just doesn't seem to help sometimes. I am glad that it is cooler now though, as it is much easier to stay hydrated.

I don't know how much water can I drink in a day. But most times, I guess I have less than 8 glasses. There are times that I drink more than that but very seldom. Now that I read your discussion, I guess I will start counting the water that I take. I always forget to count..

According to my weight chart I need to drink a gallon or a little more of water a day. I was doing this last year and it got to be a little tiresome to consume that much all the time.

Well it depends on your environment where you had been strolling, walking or working. In case you prefer to remain in air-conditioning you may not feel thirsty and consume less number of glasses. Whereas, working in hot and dry season one may consume several number of cold water bottles much more than the glasses. One of the beauty expert has recommended to drink seven liters of water every day to keep your skin smooth and full of lust. Drink lot of water and improve health......

@amitajain but i have heard if anyone is sitting in an air conditioned room for like full day he/she should drink more water, as sitting in air conditioned room dehydrates our body and specially skin

not sure of this, as there is many other elements on keeping your self refreshed and sometimes we dont drink water at all, but we consume lots of juice , or if we look at the people who lives in the desert , we find out that they cant consume this amount of water every day , despite needing it morethan any one else, in the cold lands, so i think its a recommendation not a must

It might sound unsavory but bear with me- I measure my water levels through the color of my ummm, urine which i read in a reliable health blog and found quite useful. Anything from colorless to slightly yellow means the water level is good. The darker, the lesser you are drinking so you can adjust accordingly. The 8 glass a day is definitely a myth since there is no accounting of the weight, height and level of activity of an individual.

8 glasses. 2 in the morning. 2 in the afternoon. 2 in the evening. The extra 2 whenever! Was once told 8 was the perfect number of glasses of water to drink each day. So I figured out a mathematical strategy that of course I never use. But I'm sure it works! In theory.

I actually think you should drink more, or maybe it's just me. I'm not completely satisfied with 8-10 glasses.Still, one should consider his/her body type, size, and the activities he/she has everyday to help decide with how many glasses you should take daily.

The whole 8-10 glasses figure isn't entirely true. You get water from everything you eat too, so those 8-10 glasses also come from meat, vegetables, juice, soda, whatever. And it depends on how much you're doing that day. Working out? Sure, go drink a bottle of water. Watching Netflix? Not so much.
