Biscuits for Breakfast

I didn't know what I wanted for breakfast and imagined something tasty with bacon, egg and maybe on biscuit. But it's one of those mornings and I have no zippedy doo dah in me. So I made the biscuits and didn't feel like dragging out the bacon or dealing with the greasy aftermath of cooking it. I ended up having butter and apple jelly on a biscuit. It was tasty, but I know it won't be long before I crave some protein. I hope I will have the energy to make a decent lunch. Most days I don't really eat breakfast, but when I do, I like to include protein and not just cereal or muffins, etc. What sort of breakfast do you prefer? Heavy on the carbs and/or sugar or full of protein to see you through the morning?

@Rollo1 Like Marie, I have never been a breakfast person, until late morning, so I guess it would become 'brunch', Cups of tea are my staple breakfast tipple, that gets the energy to rise...

I make granola bars, and yes, they have a lot of brown sugar and honey in them. But they are yummy.

@Rollo1 They can be tasty, but sometimes I have to watch how much sugar I have in the morning.

My weekday breakfast is usually a boring peanut butter on whole wheat toast with a piece of fruit. Sometimes on the weekend I'll indulge and have waffles & bacon. I cook my few pieces of bacon in the microwave and it saves on all that frying pan grease

I don't even like cleaning the grease off the microwave bacon plate.

We do not eat biscuits as you do in the USA. If you said biscuits to a person from the UK we would probably think something along the line of cookies. I eat porridge for breakfast every day without fail although sometimes I add fruit just to add a bit of variety.

I am pretty bi-lingual, @garymarsh6, since my husband is a Brit. Our biscuits are more like scones, there's only a very slight difference in the recipes for them. And they are a staple . I always have cinnamon and brown sugar with milk on my porridge, The Man eats his with just a little sugar.

@garymarsh6 LOL. I was here for years, so that's my old account name. I didn't bother making a new one, figured it wouldn't be too shocking, But maybe I should have...

There is a famous tricky saying that is often quoted even by some doctors - "You should eat the whole breakfast by yourself, you should share your lunch with a friend, you should give your dinner back to enemy". General Alexander Suvorov said the statement and it was also supported by the Soviets.

I agree with that. Best to eat most of your food early in the day.

I want protein at every meal. I do hate greasy skillets, so I might have put peanut butter on that biscuit.

I always eat breakfast, but unless I have a little time its usually just a bagel and cream cheese or a soft boiled egg.

A bagel is a treat for me as I don't often buy them, or if I do, I forget to buy the cream cheese.

Weekdays cereal, fruit and yoghurt, weekends bacon and eggs, poached eggs, or something similar. And, of course, coffee!

We do not have the habit to have proteins in the morning, I usually prepare muffins, bread with a little butter and jam, yogurt, time by time cereals, nothing else.

Yogurt has milk protein. But this is what is meant by a Continental breakfast in hotels in the US. We are a bit like the Brits in that we like to have a full breakfast with eggs and bacon or sausage, etc. Not every day, though.

@Rollo1 I loved to have a full American breakfast when I traveled in the United States. I love eggs, I wonder why I never make eggs for breakfast, after all I am not obliged to follow Swiss rules.

I like variety. Some days carbs, some days protein, some days I just like light breakfast - whatever can help me kick start my day right.

protein, carbs and sugar are really bad for me in large amounts, plus I dont feel well and get sleepy if I eat too much. I usually eat like a protein bar or something

There really isn't much else besides protein, carbs and sugar except fat. I like protein best because it doesn't give you that rebound tiredness like carbs and sugar.

@Rollo1 oh I know, breakfast is a hard meal for me, so I settled for chai (sweetened with stevia) and some milk, and a protein bar most days, or a handful of nuts. I have to stay under 150 carbs in a day or I balloon weight wise and start feeling horrible and achy, my metabolism is odd. lunch today will be a small salad, with some zuccini squash and some turkey deli meat. Dinner not sure on yet, I have chicken though, so maybe bake that with the rest of the squash. I did find an awesome recipe the other day that you can make a pancake like object with, using tapocia flour and almond flour, so it drastically cuts the carbs out of say, a pancake. Then I might spread natural peanut butter on it or something. (Some carbs are ok, I just need much lowered amounts).

I have never mastered that bacon in the oven thing, and I get stingy about the electricity the oven uses.
