Have You Ever Seen A German Shepherd With Blue Eyes

Some of you may know about Ky our blue eyed German Shepherd. While, I think that is neat because German Shepherds usually only have brown eyes. Unless they are puppies, have some kind of eye problem, or are not a pure bred. The other reason is a genetic anomaly. That appears to be what Ky is.
Come to find out that is not the only cool part about her eyes. She actually has part brown eyes. Her eyes are brown at the very top and blue every where else. You actually have to lift her eye lids up a bit to see it. I have poor eyes and never really looked up close till now. I did it accidentally while petting her outside where the sun allowed me to see them real well. I thought maybe she did have an eye problem. Nope, just the brown pigmentation of a normal German Shepherds eyes.
She is only just a little over a year old. So I am wondering if she is some sort of late bloomer where her eyes will eventually turn all brown like many Germans or if her eyes will be this multicolored phenomenon her whole life? Genetics sure are interesting.

I have seen blue-eyed German shepherds, but it is not something that I commonly see, which is why I have noticed. I can't tell you for sure that they were pure-bred, although they did look like shepherd rather than a shepherd mix. They certainly are beautiful dogs, though, and your Ky is no exception!

Definitely not common and have heard people say they have seen them, but Ky is the first we have seen with our own eyes. Pretty amazing someone would throw away such a pretty dog. We got her from the pound.

@crossbones27 We also saw a rottweiler with blue eyes at the shelter, which is not common. I thought that it was absolutely gorgeous, but apparently it does not meet the standards of a purebred rottweiler ... not that the dog wasn't necessarily purebred but it is just not an acceptable trait for a breeder or so I have been told.

@purplealabaster YA, or if you were to put them in a dog show. AKC would probably not except them.

I am thinking they will not either, but kind of crazy when you lift up her eye lids. The brown just stops and her rest of the eyes are blue.

@crossbones27 This also happens in humans, I have green eyes, but when I lift my eye lids the edge is grey.

I have never really paid attention when I see a German Shepherd as to what colors their eyes are, but this is interesting and could be they are starting to change. I guess only time will tell.

They are still blue, common for German Shepherds to have blue eyes when they are puppies, but when they get older they usually turn brown. She is 3 years old and still has blue eyes.

@crossbones27 They are puppies... but they are Blue German Shepherds... so their eyes like their coats are a different color

@minx267 It is a bit different really grey looking from camera maybe, I would say most definitely going to go brown and is good thing. Genetic anomalies can lead to bad things. All dogs we have had with blues eyes went blind and thinK Kai has lasted the longest knock on wood. Her eyes are also part brown at the top which is pretty weird hopefully that part is keeping her seeing. I asked a long time ago if something happened to her were her growth changed and everyone said it just happens like that.

Are They puppies? because most likely when they get older they will change to brown. Its a genetic anomaly for German Shepherds to keep their blue eyes

Pretty dog. It does look like the dog may actually have cataracts. Have you had the eyes looked at by a vet?

She sees fine for now, but was thinking that the other day that she might get that when she gets older. Vet said nothing was wrong with her eyes when we took her to get spayed. Blue eyes seem to develop that more than brown eyes from my experiences. Had a couple of Huskies that got it and both had blue eyes.

No i haven't. And I can say that this is my favorite breed. I had a german shepperd that I grew up with and if I'm ever going to get a dog again I will definitely buy that breed

My favorite breed also although they become a pain in the butt when they get older. I guess that is if they are crippled though. I imagine any dog would if they could not walk anymore. They bad thing is they are to big to carry. We have another German who has lost the ability to use his hind legs about 6 months ago.

great looking dog - makes me wonder about Aryan master-race notions among German Shepherds with blue eyes. Lol.
