A Valid Reason Not To Wear The Office Uniform ?

We have our two sets of uniforms at the office . One for Monday & Thursday , while the other one is for Tuesday and Friday . Wednesday is wash day . But here comes a department head not in uniform asking me to approve her Permission Not To Wear Uniform for this day. I read what her reason is and it says it was unwashed . I told her , I don’t want to approve it because it’s not a valid reason . Yesterday was the wash day and it was so sunny . The uniform was worn Monday . She has Monday night , Tuesday and Wednesday to have it washed and dried . I wash my uniform in the evening after it was worn so it could be ready to wear again after two days. . Why can’t she ? Am I correct in not wanting to approve it ? My co-auditor said i am correct . . . .

When there is a wash day and also there are 2 sets of Uniforms then she is suppose to wear it on the scheduled days. The reason is not valid because she did not utilize the Wash day and its her problem. Unless she had some genuine reason for not washing then its not a valid reason. You did right by not approving.

Thank you for agreeing to my decision . Sometimes we have to think well if a reason is a valid one specially that you will be the one signing for its approval. Though , i signed it and warned that there will be no second time , because when it happens , it will be a deduction from her salary since no uniform , means absent .

your office actually has a sensible and considerate uniform schedule. some are only provided one set of uniform which has to be worn every day, 6 days a week, no wash day at all.

One set and for everyday use ? So , i suppose the employees shoulders their own additional set of uniforms ? Well, that' better than no uniform at all which means it would be expensive on our part because we have to buy decent clothes to wear for the office.

@SIMPLYD is she is a new employee? does she work longer hours than you? does she have a longer commute? did she mention any home and/or family situation?

@hereandthere No , she's actually a long time employee here and close to me . But when it comes to rules , i am strict . No friends when it comes to implementation of the rules . Though i approved ultimately and warned her it will be the first and last time .

Lighter sides first This department head does need to learn. Send him to "101 New Excuses" Classes from the Learned Sids Okays, now that I have had my not-so sensible fun, lets get to business. Oh wait, I have another one I think, I will save that for future use You did a right thing. When the office is generous to provide two sets, a day off for maintenance, there is no reason to be without the dress code.

Okay i will send her to you to learn those 101 New Excuses . That is so true . The company has been generous enough to give us 2 sets of uniform so we should also do our part of seeing to it that we follow their rulings in wearing our uniforms.

Maybe she is like me--- I hate wearing uniforms-- or maybe she had sensitive domestic reasons that she did not wanna share out with you or anyone else as the perfect reason why she wasn't in uniforms. However, according to her statement you have every reason to deny her a chance to enjoy being in unofficial attires.

Well, since this is her first time , i warned her that next time the rule will be strict , No Uniform , No Entry , if there is no valid reason.

Unless there was a situation out of there control, I would say you were right. This person should have to abide by the rules just like everyone else.

Correct ! That's what i was telling her . If that's a reason , then everyone can always make-up a story that they weren't able to wash their uniforms . I told her that will be the last time .

Are you wearing an uniform on Wednesday ? I don't think that the excuse was a good one but I don't know what I would have done. I have always been annoyed by people inventing fake excuses. If you are too nice they will continue to abuse more and more often. If you punish them, they will make you a bad reputation if they can...

@SIMPLYD I hope that she will not do it again soon, or you will have to send her back to home to not appear weak. If the excuse is valid, there is no reason to not approve it, and you did right.

She was obviously annoyed when i gave my reason . But then , i approved it since it's her first time to do it . I warned her that next time , it will be NO Uniform , No Entry , if there is no valid reason . Well , one had asked for the permission and i approved it , because he has to assist her mother who will be having her dialysis.

Who knows why. But what about having a few extra uniforms so something like that will not happen. If she had a few extra ones, then she could have worn another one and wash that one another time.

I do not think the alibi is worthy to pass on. But it would be better if you have different sets of uniform for each day.

The company only gave us two sets . It's up for the employees to have two more sets , but that is at their own expense. But , this reason is really not valid .

I actually don't wash our uniform for Monday after i have worn it for the day . It's dark colored and when i remove it , i would sniff if there' s a smell . But it doesn't have a smell so i would just hang it and have it aired so it would be ready to be worn the next time . But the one for Tuesday , i wash the blouse once worn since it's colored cream and any stain can be easily seen . The office is super air conditioned , so we don't sweat .

A year before that we don't have uniforms . But we' re required to wear corporate clothes . It's tiring and expensive . My clothes , gets worn out in a few months so when there's a special occasion there's nothing special to wear anymore.

Rules are rules. If we all have ready excuses for them then they are not called rules anymore but exceptions. Good call. Unless she has a really, really, good reason.

Actually , when one has a special occasion or event to attend to after office or even in the course of the office hours , she can ask for the permission not to wear uniform anymore . Or if the uniform got spilled accidentally by coffee and the like . But that one , No .

Two sets of uniforms and even one wash day yet the excuse is it's unwashed? I probably wouldn't accept that as a legitimate excuse either. But I think I would also like to know the reasons as to why she couldn't have it washed and be ready on time.
