Are you a "selfie" fan?

I never thought I would actually say this word, let alone presume that you would see it over and over in this post! You see, I've really tried to withhold my feelings about this for quite some time now, but it will just cause me to explode if I can't tell you how I feel about "selfies." It's a nasty business watching our beautiful young teens become narcissistic individuals, when they should be practicing to grow up as sensible human beings. I've chastised myself on a regular basis for not coming to terms with their obvious preferences for the Internet, and their smart phones, ( or is it the other way round?) They don't look at you any more when they talk. When they walk down the street their fingers are busy texting. Who needs to be in touch ALL the time? Who texts whom? I've never been able to figure it out. And now the greatest insult of all. Those darn phones are held up, the person holding it smiles broadly, then takes a quick snap of THEMSELVES, and adroitly posts it on Instagram or another social site. WHY? I must be missing something here. WHY? Please explain this to me. I know I'm slow, I know I'm so antisocial I actually have to look someone in the eye to have a conversation, but I cannot for the life of me figure out why this is so popular. Do you know that Instagram has 53 million ( 6 zeros oon the end ) photos that have hashtags # selfie on their site? Doesn't this obsession seem just a little strange to any normal thinking person? No matter how I try to rationalise this, I cannot understand the reason for it. Does there have to be a reason? Well, usually most thinking people have a reason for their actions. What are these people thinking, and WHO CARES so much that they are willing to look through millions of these things? Please, if you are into "selfies" help me understand their importance to humanity, or even just to the owner of each one. Because, no matter how hard I try, I just can't care about them.

I have an aversion both for the word selfie and for the practice. When I was young, if we wanted a photo with a background of a nice place we asked to someone to take the photo. They were much nicer. About the real mania to post immediately on the social networks, is something that I would never understand.

@LadyDuck This is beyond my understanding too. I see absolutely no point in it, except maybe for close friends and family.

@crazyhorseladycx LOL!! It's definitely media driven - created its own brand of media probably. Inane to the point of sadness! They were even getting selfies with the Pope today. To add insult to this piece, guess what freebie I got with my vehicle charger today - a selfie stick, Lol!!! I'm taking bids on that - never been used, likely won't be!

I share the same opinion as you . But when you are in a situation that you are on a nice place and have to take a snapshot of you and the background is that , then it's understandable . But when it's just to take a selfie because you feel like it , oh please !

@SIMPLYD I understand and agree with you. People have been doing that for years. But not immediately posting them on social sites. Who cares?

@crazyhorseladycx I don't think i want to spend my time looking through millions of other people's selfies! That's what I mean - there just seems no point to it all!

I think it is one form of narcsisim. and i am not fan of selfie. and i find that more of troublesome than reality. most of the people who are obsessed with the selfie are into their own world. they caare less about the others. and also they are more likely to have psychological issues.

@skysnap Well, I don't know about that, but it does seem to be a real love of self, that is a bit over the top. But everyone's doing it, it seems. I guess it's time for me to try it!

i've ne'er figured it out, there's no true reasonin' i can find 'hind such a phenom. its bad 'nough that our youth 've adopted this self-absorption, but its trickled down to jest wee babes 's well. don't gimme wrong, when the daughter sends me pic 'f herself 'n the grands - i'm most delighted! but to take shots 'f oneself 'n plaster it 'cross the universe? jest makes me sad fer those who seem so insecure that they've the need fer approval from total strangers... big

I love it when friends and family send pics of themselves, but throwing them out into the world for no purpose that I can see seems beyond juvenile, and quite irritating.

The younger generation seems to love to take pictures of themselves. Why it does not make any sence at all.

I am not into selfies and don't understand it myself. I don't even like to have my picture taken at all. I'm curious to see what the responses are.
