Just how much is enough is always difficult to define. Some people cannot live without cars, others walk home. Having said that, there is a lot of risk in any manufacturing activity, pharma or not. They do research, and spend monies on that, and buy equipment for manufacturing the product. Only to be caught off guard by another product arriving in the market just around the time making break even difficult. At times, research is not sufficiently done but the product lands in the market. Much later, there are cases and legal problems. A premium cost therefore gets attached to cover costs of legal expenses at a future date, as well as cost of recovering asset costs and interest costs for setting up the manufacturing unit. Pity sometimes harsh measures are needed in the present system.
