A protein, TDP-43, functions in the manner of poisonous and infectious proteins called prions, which cause the brain destruction that occurs in Mad Cow and Chronic Wasting Disease. They are found in animal products - blood and bone meal, which is fed to cows on feed lots. Prions are situated in the brains and spinal cords of infected cows. These body parts are commonly used for hot dogs and bologna. They can also be used for ground beef and gelatin. TDP-43 has found to be connected to neurological diseases like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. Kind of kills the appetite doesn't it?

That's interesting, but if we never ate anything that they say is bad for us, we wouldn't eat anything at all!

What we know about all these diseases is painfully lacking, but the constant push to produce food cheaply and quickly has led us to lots of questionable "food".

Funny how many diseases have become a big deal since people here started eating these foods. My GS sure likes hot dogs and bologna.

The first time I read about prions, it really scared me. I realized why they went about culling animals, and burying them. Burying them does not solve the problem. Prions can survive for several years. I am a bit surprised that Alzheimer's is because of prions.

@vandana7 Prions is one cause, out of many. And it's difficult here to buy meats from small farms.

If we listen to everything we should stop eating, veggies and fruits are not an alternative as the water and the air are polluted. Cows in the past ate grass, I am glad that they still eat grass here in Switzerland.

That's why you should eat only kosher hot dogs.

The more I live the more unhealthy things that I find in lists of once good food. I loved to eat brain fritters and they disappeared from the market after the mad cow infection in the other side of the world. For a while, eggs and butter were out. Fortunatly now they are healthy as I never stopped eating them.

It's good to know about this . However , if we always have this in mind , then there will be lots and lots of foods we shouldn't be eating anymore.

Haven't heard of this yet but it is interesting to know. I would to have further knowledge about this as my husband loves to eat marrows.
