Sharing a nice meal is a good way to do instead give gifts.

Generally i do not like to receive gift from anyone in any form. It gives a feeling that we are expecting others hard earned money for free . So unless it becomes unavoidable i do not accept any gifts and return the equal value of things to them in any form for my satisfaction

I prefer a gift. When you get a gift from someone, you know that they thought of you as they picked it out. It's not about 'getting something', for me, it's about holding their thought in my hand. It's not about 'getting what I want', it's about seeing what they thought I would like...so I'd rather have a gift. However, for some people, gifting money is something they prefer, as they want to see you pick something out. In the end, it's all about the one who is giving you the gift, and what they want. I mean, I can get myself what I want, so a gift is special, it represents the person, and their thoughts :)

I would rather get the money. i know it's said that it's the intention that matters but still i get many things as a gift that I don't actually need

I prefer money because most of the time my friends and family never know what to get me for my birthday and Christmas and stuff, so if they give me money, I can go buy whatever I want.
