there was a brown out from 8 am to 5 pm, we weren't even warned
I didn't really now what to do, so i just ate, slept, read, played with my dog, sewed my pants a bit and played with my cell phone until the battery died
what would you do if there was no electricity?

I would go to the terrace and sit there quietly, if there is daylight I'll read a book. If not, I'll sit down to talk to anyone around me. Good time for socializing

That is the best time to clear all those unopened mail, bank statements and clear up the thing cluttering the home. You won't do it when there is electricity because your eyes and mind would be on the computer or cellphone. This would let me experience life would be like without electricity and cellphones. I am also wondering why we had more time before when we didn't have computers and cellphones.

You can do that in day time when there is light. Not when it is dark!

That makes the two of us! I had a similar predicament, for the second time in the last week.

@lady1993 This year, with little water, power generation seems to have been hit hard. Usually power cuts were unheard of, now they seem a permanent feature.

This monsoon, we had very heavy rain. There were landslides, uprooted trees, and no power for almost a week. But the town is amazing! In the midst of all of this, people went about their work as usual! Luckily for us, we had a solar panel and in spite of the disruption, we had a couple of lights that worked. It wasn't too bad, actually, though I can't say that I look forward to it happening again!

Here we have a different situation. The water reservoirs are almost empty. Very little fodder for the cattle. And power cuts are back. It all adds up pretty awfully.

Nine hours is a long time! The problem is that you don't know - when it starts - how long it will be before the power comes back. If you did, and it was still light, you could go for a walk. If it's night-time and the sky is clear, this would be a great opportunity to look at the stars without any light pollution.
