The Blood Moon Eclipse

I got to watch a real cosmic event for once last night. So many happen behind intense cloud cover over my home city that I miss most of them. I never saw Halley’s comet, the recent meteorite showers, or a rare look at the Aurora Borealis. I did see Halle Bop and I have watched The International Space Station fly over. I have seen partial eclipses (lunar and solar) but never a full one before. Last night’s lunar eclipse was happening between two and four AM over Manchester but it was a clear sky night so I struggled to stay awake for it, with a clear view of the Moon through my bedroom window. The Blood Red description was an exaggeration. The Moon had a rusty red tinge to it, and looked a little larger than usual. The shadow of the Earth slowly encroached over it over the space of the first hour. A radio presenter was describing the Moon as vanishing from the right hand side but I saw it going from the left and almost from top to bottom. It was a quiet gentle erosion, with a long moonless pause before it reappeared again bit by bit before the next such event occurs in about twenty years. Hopefully I’ll still be around to see it and the skies will be clear again too. Arthur Chappell

It was totally eclipsed much earlier here but by the time it was looking sort of pinkish brown, it was fairly high in the sky and not at all looking super-sized.

yes, the super-sized claim never stood up much either

@arthurchappell I zonked out and had no idea when this moon would show up here in Latvia. Regular full moons I too can see from my bed right outside the window. The result of this one must have been what happened this morning. It get light slowly starting from 6 AM. Today at 7 AM it was still pitch black and then came heavy rain pouring down. Must of mixed up the sky waves. lol The sun popped out at 9AM

We had no luck, the sky was covered with dark clouds and we missed the super moon and the eclipse.

I saw the moon eclipsing with perfect skies, but when it was shifting into its full phase the clouds came in and I only got glimpses of the blood moon. I hopped in my car and drove 30 miles to where it was supposed to be cloudless, but the clouds got there before I did. I did enjoy the spontaneous outing though. At least I saw it eclipsing. And I have seen several blood moons in the past, just not big ones.

I was lucky to have great weather for the eclipse and the super moon. They were both a first for me.
