Making Money On-line

I see many posts from people complaining that they are not being paid by certain sites for their work.
They talk about their writing being their job. The money that they feel they should get, they see as their wages for what they have written.
I want to let you into a little secret. Revenue sharing sites, no matter which site you are a member of, are not a way to make quick easy money.
If making money is your aim, then sites like myLot and Bubblews are not the best place to make it. For most people there are far easier ways to make money than writing on the internet.
There is a woman who sits outside my local supermarket most week days. This woman has a handwritten piece of cardboard with her message on it, and a begging bowl.
If I were a betting person I know who I would say would make the most money. I am convinced that it would be this woman with her begging bowl.
I think she will take home far more money from her days begging than any of us will make on any revenue sharing site.

There are places to make real money writing online, but you can't write just what you want to write, and you won't get paid for talking about what you had for breakfast and you probably won't get a by-line because you are writing blog content or copy for a website and the client intends to pretend they wrote it. You can make a small living, probably not enough to live on as a single income. Some may be able to if they get a lot of work. But it is work. This is not work, this is a hobby. I prefer it to writing for serious jobs, because I am really lazy these days and I don't feel like doing all that research or editing, etc.

I never made more than 150 or so in a month on writing sites, still, it was a nice amount to pay for christmas with and stuff. that's long gone of course. There are a few others places, like ghost blogging that pay very well (blogmutt comes to mind), but that's work. And I do mean work. Yeah you get paid 8+ for a 300 word piece, but you may spend five hours researching and putting it together. I still do that some, when I have time. My next thought though was, to actually try and self publish on Amazon. It's become much easier, and since it would only be a digital copy no overhead and all of that.

@Jessicalynnt You are so right Jessa writing especially good writing is hard work and you have to make sure your facts are right.
I think that you, because you actually are a writer, will stand a much better chance of making good money self publishing.
At least that way you get to choose your subject matter. E-books have opened doors that in the past only publishers could open for us.

@maggs224 I think about it, and then never go anywhere with it, maybe this year I will do something with my NANWRIMO novel.

@Jessicalynnt One thing is for sure Jessa if you don't try, you will not find out. Who knows you might be the next J. K. Rowling just sitting on a best seller.
After all, a NANWRIMO novel deserves to see the light of day after all the effort that goes into writing one.

It is very hard to make money online, that is for sure. I never expected to get rich here or anywehre ellse for that matter. I am just trying to supplement my rental income and social security that I get every month. I am just glad that I am making any money at all, as there are lots of scams out there,as I have been scammed in the past. The sites I do are ones that have paid me over and over, as they are the reliable ones.

yepperz, the internet 's 'n o'ersaturated market. many folks i've run into whom do the complainin' the loudest 're those folks who talk 'bout what they had fer breakfast 'r what they did 't the supermarket. more'f a small-town gossip kinda thingy? 'course that bubbs thingy was shellin' out to some folks $600-$700/month u.s.d. fer 10 posts/day. they giggled all the way to the bank.
no doubt that ladies got a knack, too many folks in these parts do that panhandlin'. when they're done fer the day, they climb in their shiny new suv's 'n drive off the parkin' lot. shameful...

@crazyhorseladycx I forgot to say, I agree with you those who were talking the loudest were those who did the ten posts a day about whether the sun was shining or what they had for breakfast.
For many of those people it was the first time that they had ever posted something on-line. You know what they say, if something seems to be too good to be true...
Having seen other sites start off the same way as Bubblews only to crash and burn, it was clear that it was only a matter of time before the Bubblew bubble was bound to burst.

So you're saying I should quit Mylot and spend this time begging on the street?

@maggs224 I have a full-time job. I do this for some fun and relaxation. I do wish I could earn just a little bit better here as I would like some extra cash to get my debts paid down... but I just enjoy my time instead of worrying about how much I'm earning. The earning is just a bonus.

@katsmeow1213 ...lol No I am not advocating that you get out your begging bowl and hit the streets. I am just saying that you have to invest a lot of time here for very little monetary reward. But if you come on here for the fun you have interacting with others from all over the world, then the rewards are quite high, just not in cash.

@katsmeow1213 When you do that you are winner on both fronts. When you are not fixating on the bank total but enjoying the interaction the bank total will not be your focus. So you be able to concentrate on relaxing and enjoying the interactions on myLot more. With your focus on enjoying yourself you will not be getting frustrated by the speed or lack of speed of the money total in the bank. I think you made the right choice and so you get two bonuses fun and money lol

Yeah, I agree that it's not easy to make a lot of money through writing online. If we choose this way to make money, how much we could earn depends on the value of what we write. If I were a famous person, many people may be interested in knowing what I do or how I feel. Then what I write online may attract the attention of people, which may bring me a lot of money. But as an ordinary person, I could only earn money by writing something online to cater to the need of someone who are willing to pay money. For instance, I could write financial analysis articles and send them to financial maganzine public presses. They may pay me some money if they think my articles are valuable. Here in mylot, I think it's acceptable that we could earn some money by writing something as we wish.

@maggs224 To those famous people, their fame is a resource of fortune. Any time they need money, they could just sell such resource and get a lot of money. It seems so good, but we ordinary people lack such resource.

@Simon1223 You are quite right Simon, if you were rich and famous people would be falling all over you to get you to do a piece for them. Many celebrities make quite a lot of money selling their stories.

@Simon1223 But neither do we have a lot of the problems that come with being rich and famous either. When I look at the lives of many of the rich and famous I would not exchange mine for theirs.

@rebelann You are right some do accept other English speaking countries too. Bubblews changed the rules two or three times regarding none English speaking locations.
First it was a longer waiting period for us, which came and went, then it was each redeem would be individually looked at. For me, this resulted in three redemptions not being paid.
I was born and educated in the UK I have a good command of the English language so I thought that I was discriminated against unfairly.
I am under $5 away from a redemption, but I think I will not see that one either.

That is a pretty profitable business. As a college prank, one of my buddies sat on the stairs of a mosque one Friday, and collected enough bucks for the movie binge. And also won a bet for his boast, about that caper.

@maggs224 It was done as a prank, when I was in college. It seems a long time now. You won't believe, we posted the details of it in a local daily and, thoroughly regaled the staff of that newspaper while we were there.

@gregario888 I don't think that it is something that I could do, and I seriously hope that no-one finds themselves in a situation where they have to do this to put food on their table.

@gregario888 Our universities in the UK used to have what they call rag week. Rag week is where they do silly stuff and and publish a rag magazine and they raise a lot of money for charity.
Rag week use to be very popular in the city where I lived. Our local university held a big parade during Rag week which ended up in the Market Square in the city centre.
I am not sure they hold Rag weeks as much these days as they did in the past. It was all good natured fun back in the fifties and sixties.

This is a good point. Writing sites are not "a job". If people want to earn money they have to find a real job, they can add a little something writing online. I know that beggars earn well, but I do not see myself sitting outside a shop with a bowl asking form money.

@LadyDuck I agree Anna, social sites like Bubblews and myLot are not our employers and we do not earn a fee based on the quality or content of our writing .
I think that there are very few people who enjoy sitting with a begging bowl. Most people would prefer to work for a living and get paid enough to live on.
Sadly many today hold down more than one job and still do not have enough to live on. Just look at how many food banks have sprung up in so called first world countries since the recession started.

I agree with you, Maggs. For me it's just fun on sites like these., and it really amuses me when I see people being jubilant because they've reached the $10 dollar cash-out requirement here. I mean - is that going to change their lives? When you think of the hours that they have put in for that $10, the pay is pitiful. That's why It doesn't bother me if I don't get paid, though of course it's nice when it happens.
I've heard that beggars in England can make £100 a day.

@jaboUK The quality of his workmanship is incredible, and he charges so little we can hardly believe it at times. We invariably end up paying him more than he asks for because we just can't take at the price he says. As you might guess he gets a lot of business from the locals too.

@jaboUK You are so right Janet, if making money is your object then the return on your time spent is pitiful. Even on this site the time you need to actually spend interacting in order to make $10 is humongous.
I like dropping in and interacting, but if I didn't I would not spend my time here. One thing you learn as you get older is that time is far more precious than money. I know we need money to live in today's society but even that is beginning to change.
A lot more people are giving up the rat race and trying to live off the grid. Going back to bartering their skill, time, talents and produce for things they need.
Where I can, I support the small local businesses. I am delighted to say that where I have gone small and local I have ended up doing myself a favour.
I take all sorts of things over to our cobbler, he has done all sorts of altering and mending. It seems if you can tell him what you want he will figure out a way to do it. Bags, belts, dog harnesses you name it and he has fixed it better than the original.

I make good money doing surveys on line when I have time but I don't write to make money--I write because I want to and, in many cases, because I have to do.

@CollegeQueen When we lived in the UK I know that when e-bay first started up my husband was able to make quite a lot of money there. It is not so easy here in Spain as things do not work the same here and the postal service, at least in the part of Spain I live in, is not reliable enough or cheap enough to make e-bay a viable proposition.

@skysnap I have also found that clients often have no idea how much work goes into the jobs that they give you.
Clients give you a brief for a job and when you give them what they ask for, they often change their mind.
The client will often then ask for what they think of as minor changes that are anything but minor, especially when 3D photo realistic drawings are involved.

@simone10 I think that if we treat sites like this as fun then we will get far more out of them. If you are having fun interacting then you are fun to interact with. So while having fun you are more likely to generate more views and comments and thereby the money will grow faster.

You are probably right. In California, I saw a man pick up his begging hat and get into a limousine and the end of the day, after sitting there on the sidewalk, begging all day. My family and I were visiting and shopping that day. It was one of those little coastal communities.
