I have been listening to some Amish stories lately and this week I learned that the women don't feel the need to wear engagement or wedding bands. I'm not sure that this applies to all Amish communities, but apparently in this particular part of the country, it does applies.
That sent me looking for more traditions and I found an interesting one. It's all about kissing. ;)
This was once very important wedding custom because this kiss was what actually sealed the wedding contract. No kiss and I guess you weren't legally married!!
I wonder if that is the reason why a minister always states at the end of the marriage ceremony... that the groom may now kiss the bride! lol.

I have now officially changed that line. The groom cannot as of a few seconds ago... "kill the bride" lol

It is interesting to hear about necessity of 'kiss' to legalize a wedding. Here wedding ring is important but more important is vows of Husband and wife, which are taken in the presence of fire and administered by a Priest and parents and relatives from both the sides.

Yes, I had never heard of the "kiss" either. My wedding was pretty much what you described. :)

@Hate2Iron Lol...maybe it was auto-correct which can be a pain sometimes.

I think it depends on tradition, although if it then it is more cool
