what do you prefer when it comes to movies that reflect a book. would you rather read the book first or watch the movie and read it afterwards?

If you intend to read the book and watch the film then it would be necessary to watch the film first. Whenever you read a book you create an image in your mind reflecting the characters and the scene etcetera. Obviously if you read the book first then the characters in the film and the settings will conflict with what you have mentally created, whereas watching the film first will show the characters and scenery for you to follow in the book.

I prefer to do the reverse. I would prefer to watch the movie only afterwards so I can make a comparison between the two

.@swissheart I should imagine the film is rather second rate after reading the book.

@Asylum yes indeed. in all the cases the film came second for me as a quality compared to the book

Movies rarely live up to the books as they have to cut so much, so I'd watch the films first and then read the book usually, except with Harry Potter as those films took too long to come out

I prefer to do the reverse. read the book and after watch the movie. but I agree they rarely live up to the expectations

@rachelyoung13 I couldn't enjoy the book if I already knew what happened. it makes me lose the surprise

@swissheart the films are always so bad when you read the books first though, although I do like knowing what's going to happen before watching them

I always prefer reading books first before watching the movie adaptation. However, when I saw the Lord of the rings movies and Game of thrones series, I was excited to read the books. But both is fine with me.

actually depends.. the book is more detailed than any movie of course..so to understand the story better you need to read the book. i prefer to read book at first then watch the movie..i believe that's better than watching the movie at first

@shubho666 I guess you're right. the director feels like leaving a print in such matters

@swissheart actually i love reading which is why i prefer the book mainly. what i dont like is the fact that the movie somewhat diverts from the actual plot of the book which somehow ruins the mood...

For me, I definitely go for the movie first. I am a visualist and I like to see how actor/actress play his/her role. afterwards, I will use the face i see in the movie to locate each role in the book.
