What do you think it takes to be successful in teaching?

Teaching is no longer new to me because I was once a teacher in one of the schools here in our province. I don't think there is a right formula to succeed in this kind of job, so long as your intention is to really care about the need of your students then you're doing a good job. It takes a lot of dedication and passion to become one of the best teachers. Just care and everything will follow.

Remembering the teachers I liked the most and from whom I learned the most, I would say that first, an ability to relate to and sympathise with young people is the most important. This means being able to be something of a young person oneself and that usually means that one enjoyed one's childhood - or parts of it, at least - and also that one likes children! This attitude, both in and out of class, is really what makes one a good teacher.
The best teachers are those who have a sense of humour and can always find something amusing and appealing in their subject. That generally means that a good teacher actually enthuses about the subject he/she teaches and therefore believes that and understands why it is worth teaching. Many people hate maths, for example, but if the teacher can convey practical reasons why the subject is useful, he/she will win round many of the students and make them enjoy the subject, too, even though they may not be good at it.

@Ragnarok8 My mother and father were both teachers at some point in their lives. I resisted training as a teacher when I was young (even though people thought I would make a good one) but I ended my working life as an IT Trainer, nevertheless.

You have to also love children if you are teaching children. Just love what you do.

You should be very proud of him. They said teachers are the catalysts of the society. What we are today is because of them.

Responsibility for the students is the strongest trait a good teacher has. I'm glad you understand that. Are you interested in teaching in the future?

@TheHorse thanks! during discussion we should let them encourage to really participate or be involved through that we are not just helping them to enlarge their knowledge but at the same time we are enhancing their personality as well.

The teacher needs to know the subject and needs to be able to share that knowledge with the student and connect with the student. My teachers knew their discipline and made sure I learned. Each had their own method of instruction. Another thing … my teachers made me feel like they cared about my education and my future.
