A Noticable Drop in Earnings

It began on Tuesday.
All seemed to be going well that morning. I had been to the doctor for a routine appointment (nothing to worry about - just a review of my medications) and I was preparing a meal for friends - chicken breasts stuffed with spinach and mozzarella and wrapped in prosciuto.
I just turned quickly to grab another slice of ham from the plate and felt myself stumble. I grabbed the counter firmly and steadied myself but realised that I was unaccountably dizzy and needed to sit down. I made it to a chair with some help and quickly began to feel very ill. My wife called a paramedic who arrived in three or four minutes, gave me some quick tests and an ECG and called an ambulance.
Within half an hour I was on a stretcher in A&E being subjected to blood tests, more ECG and a whole list of questions, muscle and nerve tests and goodness knows what else. At least I felt a little better just lying there (and there was a lot of that). Doctors and nurses came and went and I certainly felt that something was being done. Finally they gave me a pill (I think to help with the nausea) and gave me a CAT scan. I was moved to the Emergency Assessment Unit for the night while they looked at the scan results. Sometime later that evening I was told that they had found a small aneurism and that they'd decide what to do with me in the morning.
I had a very peaceful and undisturbed sleep (I usually do seem to sleep well in hospital) and woke feeling a lot better. Finally the doctor (with his bevy of note-taking students) swept in and explained in a little more detail, saying that I could go home at lunch time. I had had a small stroke - nothing major but it does mean I can't drive for four weeks and should take it easy for a while (which I am doing, of course!).
I would like to give praise to our medical care system here (though I don't think that I saw a single English member of staff there - it was almost as cosmopolitan as MyLot!). I do live in a very good position for the best and most speedy treatment, being only a mile or so from one of the best teaching hospitals in the country.
All this unscheduled away time means, of course, that I haven't been on MyLot for a while and it shows in my daily earnings. The encouraging thing, however, is that even with a 24 hour break, there are still a few pennies trickling through (and an awful lot of notifications to catch up with!). It just goes to show that there's a lot of give and take here ... in the best possible way, of course!

Thank you, Marie. I am feeling considerably better today. I have yet to have an MRI scan, which may reveal more than a CT scan. I wouldn't be surprised if they did find a history of small aneurisms and odd connections in my brain because for a long time I have been finding that little bits of useless trivia are increasingly hidden from view. Could I remember the name for the potato thingies I bought for the meal the other day? Not a bit of it! The best I could come up with was 'latkes' when I knew it began with a 'p'! (I just went to check the freezer - they are, of course, called ... ROSTI! ... there, I knew it began with a 'p'!)

After all that, being lucky enough to still write on Mylot once again, you can still think about your earnings. I give thanks that you are well, but your post made me think about how money is so important in our lives that we think about it foremost in our minds. Kind of weird don't you think Glad you are okay.

I wouldn't deny, of course, that we need money to live but, thank God, I don't have to worry about it too much, least of all what we can earn here. Most of all, of course, I am thankful that I am still alive and have a sense of humour and that I live in a country where I don't need to worry whether my insurance will cover my treatment or not and don't have to receive hospital bills and make insurance claims and so on. I would hate all that paperwork.
To tell the truth, I was looking for a 'hook' on which to hang my discussion and, knowing how many people's ears prick up at the mention of 'earnings', I thought that a suitable (if somewhat a mischeivous) one.
What I most appreciate about MyLot is the conversation and the 'back and forth' and that is most easily measurable by the 'earnings', so I use that figure as an indication - a kind of score card - to show how much or little interaction I am involved in. Let's be honest: cutting a cent into 100 pieces would leave you with a box full of copper tin tacks!

@owlwings So how good is your insurance, my friend? Does it cover everything end to end? This is an interesting topic of discussion in itself because in India, health insurance is still in primitive stages and has way too many loopholes and exclusion clauses. More often than not when you actually need that insurance policy to come to your rescue, you find it lacking. The sub limits of various components such as room rent and operation charges tend to screw you here. In the end, it feels like a waste of money.

The good thing is you got speedy care, and I hope your recovery time is speedy, too. Yes, even when we are away from the site, the earnings still manage to tick upwards. I hope this is an indication of how it will be here. I would hate for any of that to change.

Good to know you're okay! I took a few days off from myLotting last week, and you're right, it's always nice to see the bank going up even though we're away.

I am glad to hear you are ok, and take it easy of course. Those kind of things can be really bad when not caught, and I do hope it's all smooth sailing from here on.

Glad to hear you were "fixed" right away. My neighbor has had a number of mini-strokes and now just keeps tripping and falling and hurting herself. She's only 42 but is in the early stage of dementia. Her hubby is afraid to go to leave her alone when he goes to work.
Hope you feel better soon.

@BarBaraPrz Flowers are good but many people forget the subtle beauty and intricacy of foliage (even something so plain and apparently simple as rubber plant leaves).

It is the worry that I might be a burden to others that concerns me most. I'm sad to hear about your neighbour. It is particularly worrying for other people when strokes hit because one can never be completely sure what parts of the brain they have affected and whether the patient will recover or may need care that their family is unable to supply.
I am generally very phlegmatic about my own health concerns, once I know what they are and what's causing them. I figure that, with the right medication (where necessary), my body will do what it can to repair the damage, so I no longer worry when worry can do more harm than good.
I like your painting of leaves. It is restful but, at the same time, stimulating by the accidental patterns made by the spaces in between!

First of all I would like to ask you how are you feeling today. I know, questions about health are not good, but then when I read about it on Fb, I was shocked and got worried.
I must say that I have read many times on Internet that UK has probably the best medical care facilities, though I am unsure as I have no personal experience. So reading your text above, gives me hope and positivity that what I read is not all fake.
I wish you good health - and would request you not to stress and exert yourself. Gain on health and that would be good for all of us around.
Regards.

It's certainly unsettling to be knocked of one's horse by a low-slung bough when you're riding the trail but, thankfully, I seem to be less sobered by the experience than, perhaps, I should be. I remember that I was less appalled at my diagnosis of cancer many years ago than others around me. I suppose that I have a good faith in medical expertise and the ability of life to sort things out on its own pretty well.
I am very lucky, I know, to live near a good hospital with a good response time and some of the top specialists in the UK. We also don't have to worry about bills and insurance claims here. I do hate dealing with paperwork and that, I believe, is often a huge worry for US residents.

Good thing what you needed was taken care of quickly. I was going to ask if the aneurysm was in the brain or heart, but now I know the answer to that one. Those can be deadly, so it's great they figured it out so fast.
Someone else saw a drop in earnings due to someone here possibly being deleted, and I thought this would be something related. Different idea entirely. Get the rest you need.

We used to see small drops in earnings here quite often when a discussion we had been involved in was deleted. The owners say that the new earnings algorithm shouldn't affect people that way so much. In other words, you shouldn't lose earnings if a discussion you responded to is deleted through no fault of your own. I presume that any loss of earnings is deducted from the account of the person actually responsible for the deletion.

It's amazing that you are still thinking about myLot. You should count your lucky stars that you are well now. A stroke is no funny business, however minor. You can always come back to myLot if health permits but don't lose sleep over a few cents. Take some time off to heal.

MyLot is one of the best tonics I can think of! I just looked out of the window and it's a brilliantly clear evening. I think that I should quickly lose count of my lucky stars if I tried to count them!

It is wonderful that you still earned a little, even when you had to be away. I am also glad you were OK.
