Are You A Gambler?

For most people when they hear the word, 'gambler' they automatically assuming someone who places bets, visits casinos, buys lottery tickets, and what not.
However being a gambler also means taking a risk or chance on something.
Deciding to open your own business is taking a risk or chance, hence making you a 'gambler'. To meet someone for the first time, you might or might not connect, but decide to give it a chance can make you a gambler.
So once again I pose the question; 'Are You A Gambler?' If so, in what way?

I'm a gambler too in almost every sense of the word. I absolutely enjoy the casinos. And as you put it, which I didn't think about it that way, but you have a very valid point, anyone who married took a chance (gambled) on it. Nicely stated.

Yes, ma'am, a large proportion of the people have taken that same gamble... In my case, I lost twice, but I struck it rich with my children and my friends!
Someone said I have a knack for bringing people together... I don't think it is any kind of special talent or anything. I just like people. The people who like me and are willing to stick around with me tend to meet other people just like themselves, whether they realize that, or not.
That familiar feeling people have with each other is that little something extra that can bond friends together, but the lack of it can/will shove people apart, too.

I am a gambler. I bet on the horses when we are lucky enough to get to go to the races and I started my own home based business. I paint on Slate and sell my work in Wineries and gift shops in the area. Plus I do two big art shows every year. @DaddyEvil sent me. he gave me a list of his friends he enjoyes so I'm checking them out.

Oh I haven't been to the horse races in about 20 years. I had a pretty sad way of picking my horses. It was decided upon the color the jockey was wearing. I really didn't do too bad either. Oh wow, that sounds really nice. Sounds like you are quite talented.
Well, thanks for checking me out, @DaddyEvil has a knack of bringing people together.

Yeah, you could have added something like, 'Have You Ever Danced With the Devil in the Pale Moonlight?' A very famous quote from the Batman movie.

@TexanTornado In all seriousness, we all are gamblers as you put it. We take decisions, make choices and even walk the roads thinking about perspectives from our very own limited vision.
Does that sound any original

I do take chances and calculated risk.. That doesn't really make me a real gambler.. I real gambler throws caution to the winds.. I am not a gambler in the sense of taking bets and playing games.. I am actually a bore I guess. However, I do gamble with words, I throw them up together to see what they do most of the time.,. creatively I mean.

So you not a poker player, or a slot machine junkie. Not everyone is. However, you take chances and risks. Hence making you a gambler in the greater scheme of things.

@sofssu No, but if you read the last one in your own post, of it: to take a chance on; venture; risk: Then I would say you were a gambler. Think of it this way, each time you try growing a tree or new flower, you gamble that it will live and flourish.

@TexanTornado If i go by the dictionary meaning..
to play at any game of chance for money or other stakes.
to stake or risk money, or anything of value, on the outcome of something involving chance:
.
to lose or squander by betting (usually followed by away):
to wager or risk (money or something else of value):
to take a chance on; venture; risk:
I am not much of a gambler. Am I ? I don't take risks or chances putting something of value in the balance..

I think more people gamble than they realize, they might drive too fast or cut people off, or they dont take care of their bodies the way they should.

You are absolutely right about that. I think so many hear the word 'gambler' and their automatic reaction if not into casinos and such is to screaming 'no'.

Ah that is some good example @crazyhorseladycx . To take someone at their word and to put your trust in them, is a very high risk that has you gambling just as much as if you were to put 10K down on a poker table. Also the tending to the animals is a chance you take.

@crazyhorseladycx Oh jeeze. I never could see how anyone could abuse an animal. Why take/buy an animal if you don't want it. And to me with an animal as expensive as a horse. *just shakes my head* You know, your stories with your horses always remind me of the 'Horse Whisperer'. Have you ever seen that movie?

YES! I AM CURRENTLY A GAMBLER AND A RISK TAKER! Omg I can't believe what I've become now. Not that I do casinos and all that, I don't even do the lottery but I am taking risks in terms of "investments".
I just hope all my "gambling" pays off soon so I can buy a high end laptop, a tablet and a new mobile phone by Christmas! I guess this is why I feel like doing daily mass for two weeks!

@TexanTornado My first gambling was besides playing cards with family and friends was at a Casino in Washington waiting for the plane to take us off to Florida. I had never known what a Casino was till then although I had played at the virtual casino. I spent 20 dollars but did make some money.

Oh $20.00 isn't bad, especially when you can win some, then taking it and go.

Yes, @TexanTornado , I have always been somewhat of a gambler... You have surely seen/read many of the well... not always so short anecdotes I add to relatively many of my responses, comments, interactions on this site, haven't you? Most of those, if not all of them are me gambling in one way or another on something. It appears to be a large part of my life.
I gamble on signing up for a new site, hoping it is the site for which I have been searching, hoping it will afford me (and, of course, my online friends) the amenities we want/require to feel at home on the site.
I gamble that if I ever do find the site we want/hope for, that it will suit all of us, not just one of us and the rest must make-do on this site.
Heck, I gamble that I will wake up tomorrow if I decide to sleep today! Don't we all?
Very interesting post, TT! You should get a lot of hits on this one! Good luck!

Ah I have to say, I am impressed with your logic in which you stated in your response. You tend to look at the whole picture and not just focus on the 1 thing. Your points are very valid.
Why thank you. I do try, when I can get my brain to kick start into gear.

@DaddyEvil I don't think I have. You have more of a tendency to give me and purple a hard time. I might also add without any encouragement from us either.
Ah so you can cook huh? Did your cooking cause them to have to go on a diet? Hence the divorces?? Just teasing..

@TexanTornado Thank you, hon! Uhm... haven't you seen me lay out what I am thinking about like that before? I have done so several times on this site... granted, I don't think I have laid my mind bare on one of your threads before, though.
That is just the way I view things... It isn't, in any way, remarkable, as far as I know... I think that is the way everyone views things. I may be more willing to show people the paths my mind takes/uses to reach a goal I have set than others you have conversed with, hon.
The only thing remarkable about me is my cooking... You can ask either of my ex-wives about that... It is almost the only thing they each praised both before we got married and after our divorces... (The almost is the only other thing they both praised me for before and after, but is not quite suitable for this site... )

Although I've yet to be inside a casino, I used to do sweepstakes where I tried to win each month, Never did, but continued in that vein for several years.
I think if people aren't willing to take some type of risk then they have that phobia where they never leave their homes. Traveling even to one's job can be a risk somedays. I trust God to cover those riskier than me that could impact my life in a bad way, but I'd agree there's more to gambling than the obvious.
THose that are addicted to gambling, though, seem not to know when to say no, especially when they're already in the hole financially.

Oh you should visit a casino, simply for the food. I find casinos has some of the best food around. My ex and his wife go to the casino twice a month and it's only for the food.
Yes, you are absolutely right. In almost everything we do, it cane become a gamble.
I think people sometimes takes word very literally without looking or stopping to think of the whole picture or it's concept.
Those that gamble that way, it's an addiction.

Good question. I'm not a casino type gambler. And I guess I'm not in business either. I've made some decent money refinishing vintage loudspeakers, but my overhead was virtually zero--not much risk. I do go hiking in rattlesnake country--but I'm cautious about it and stay aware of my surroundings.

Nope, absolute not ... I am certainly not a gambler or risk taker. I always think everything through and choose the safest course of action, especially if it comes with no risk, because I have a steady and firm "no risk" policy ... unless it is the board game "Risk", of course, and then I absolutely love it.
