Do you let your children play in the rain?

It was raining heavily yesterday afternoon, and my children were so excited to go out to the yard and play in the rain. They were having so much fun. In the evening, the rain stopped, and we went to the park nearby as usual. There were many puddles, and my children were having fun stomping and splashing in the puddles.
I shared my children's photos playing in the rain in Facebook, and got many questions such as "Won't you afraid your children will get sick because of this?"
My children have never fall sick because of playing with the water. In fact, I think this might make their body stronger as they are getting nearer to the nature. Moreover, the children always like to play with anything in the nature.

Yes, I think that too. As we are staying in tropical country, it's always hot everyday. I don't mind if my children want to play with water when they are taking shower in the evening or even at night, they never get cold because of this too, though many people advised me not to do so.
Some children who are restricted to do a lot of these will get sick more easily, hence the parents do not let the children play with water.

My daughter had a soccer game in the downpour yesterday, and we all stood out there and watched her play... so yes, my children do play in the rain.

@kaka135 I had no choice in the matter, her team had a game and the officials didn't call it even though it was raining buckets.

@katsmeow1213 I guess it's very common to play soccer in the rain. I watched some soccer matches (English Premier League), they still continued the game even though it was raining.

Whether parents permit their kids to play or not every child would have done it in their life time. I have.

@allknowing You were sent home? That's so nice! I remember some of my classmates have to stay in the classroom till after school though they are wet.

Cute photo! I don't think I have ever played in the rain. Wish I did when I was a kid though, looks like fun and I think you're right - maybe if we play with nature, we will be stronger!

Thanks. Yes, I believe that, because the nature will take care of us.
Of course, it also depends on the health condition of the child. I usually do not dare to suggest others do this to the children, as many children here have not been exposed to rain or even play water. Some do not even dare to let the children take shower after evening, as they are afraid the children might get cold. (We have hot weather almost everyday here.)

@kaka135 That makes a little more sense, since the weather is hotter there. When it rains where I live in Southern California - it's cold so I guess it isn't common for us to play in the rain compared to where you live. Hehe

Yes, I agree with that too! That's why I always encourage them to play with water and sand, and even play in the mud puddle. I also notice that many children who do not expose to the nature might get sick more frequently, though there may also be other reasons that cause the sickness.

My youngest son loves to play in the rain as well. But I let him wear raincoat and boots, lol! He can't stand the cold at all. But my eldest son loved to get wet in the rain when he was small. He would run to our neighbors' house and would invite his playmates to join him. Thanks for sharing a photo of your kids by the way, they look like they are having fun.

It's nice that your eldest son has some playmates joining him in the rain. Not many parents allow the kids to play in the rain here.
Sometimes my children are shivering in the rain, but they still enjoy playing! They used to use bubble wraps to make raincoats, and wear them while raining, but after some time, they took off the "raincoat".

@Magnolia74 That's good of you. I have some friends who spent lots of time outside with the nature, but they still don't let their children to do the same.

@kaka135 I allow my kids because I loved to play in the rain too when I was a kid. I didn't get sick. Maybe I did catch colds back then but it's not something serious, lol! I want them to experience the same fun that I had while growing up.

I appreciate that you can let your children play in the rain. Today we can be judged so many ways for how to bring up children, especially from the elders. Such as you shall let the children wear more, they can't drink cold water etc. But I agree with you that children needs to be "suffered" so that they can grow stronger. When my son was very little, there were springs in front of a department store. Children played there, my son wanted to play there, too. I just let it be and he made himself all wet. Then I went to the department stores to buy dry clothes for him to change after playing. Oh, I forgot the price was so expensive inside. This is an expensive play

Yes, I guess I am always judged by others how I bring up my children. I am very used to it, and I don't really mind what others said, as long as I know what I am doing and it's definitely no harm to my children, and my husband thinks the same as well.
I just try to let the kids be the kids.

Children love rains! And water too, my kids look forward to any planned rip to the local water parks.

I grew up being told that, too. But I think you're right, playing in the rain can't possible cause that much harm. They look really happy in the picture.
Are you in KL? The haze isn't getting any better is it?

Yes, sometimes I think having such experience is wonderful, moreover there's really no harm for doing that, we don't need to let the fear conquer us.
I am in Klang. Though there was rain, the haze is not getting better. Sometimes it's better, these two days it's worse.

@kaka135 Glad they closed the schools these two days. I can't imagine letting the kids go out in this kind of weather.

We enjoyed playing in the rain when we were younger, and my children did the same too. What people may be confused by is what the climate is in your neck of the woods, while they're playing in the rain. I wouldn't recommend doing that when the weather is chilly, only when the temps are warmer.
For intstance it's raining right now in Michigan, but the temps are staying steady at about 38 degrees Fahrenheit which is 3.33333 Celcius. I'm guessing the climate is always warmer in your part of the world? THat would make a big difference.
If people are worried about their kids getting sick just by playing in the rain even on warm days, they're worrying for nothing.
