Today is cloudy with patchy drizzle and the air smells of fallen leaves. Yesterday the sun has made a brief appearance, not for a long time, but enough to take a photo of my little pond with the water reflections. The dwarf maple on the edge of the water, has completely turned golden and red. It's time for me to put the net on the pond, I expects that soon the maple leaves will start to follow. I do not want to spend a full day fishing out leaves. Have already changed their colors the leaves in your area?

The maples always turn pretty colors, we have some that go nearly all red. Some of the trees have changed or begun to change, others haven't yet started. I hope they don't change before the big storm passes by or it will rip all the pretty leaves from the trees prematurely.

I hope that the storm spears your area and does not make too many damages where it passes.

It sounds as though you are describing a typical British summer's day.

@LadyDuck We can always tell when summer is ending and winter is approaching because the rain becomes snow.

It will be a few more weeks before leaves turn and fall, except up the Smoky's in the higher elevations.

I have waited too long to put the net on the pond, today it rains and they are falling.

That must be a bit of a hassle putting a net over the pond. Not as much as fishing the leaves out though

Yes, I am going to ask my husband to help. Last year I thought to skip this annoying task, but I have spent two days cleaning the pond from the fallen leaves in early spring.

The beauty of fall by you is something to behold, here our trees do not have such vibrant colours. But, we have white blooms everywhere for spring right now, I look out my kitchen window and see that soon summer will be here.

It has been green until last week, but the last few days the cooler nights have changed the landscape.

Ours have already changed since the cooler weather is now upon us. Some of the trees leaves have turned red or yellow or a deep brown.

May be in future you could trim the tree before the leaves dry. Just a thought

new shoots
@LadyDuck I have never heard of that rule. We do that here so that we get fresh shoots If you remember we had a mini tornado which chopped off many of our trees. They have got new shoots now.

I can trim it "a little", the maple trees must not be trimmed too much and anyway never trim a tree when the leaves are still on.

I always just read how it is when it is fall in countries who have this season . Makes me really want to go to one someday and experience winter and fall which the Philippines don't have .

@SIMPLYD It is surely funny to experience, if you do not have to get a shovel and clear the road to go out with the car.

It's a desert here so no trees except in yards where people may have planted some which they need to water or they'd dry up. It's still warm .... ok HOT I suppose .... here, yesterday it was 94 or 95 and hopefully we'll get a cool spell, I like the 80s. I don't envy the cold temps you must be getting there. (those temps are fahrenheit)

Ahhh @LadyDuck you must have come through during late spring or early summer, we're usually right around 100 around that time and it can last 3 months sometimes. Did you like the lack of humidity?

@rebelann It was a month of May, the beginning of the month. I liked the lack of humidity, it was very dry also in Arizona, Nevada and New Mexico.

Here in eastern NC we don't get a lot of color in the fall but the area I live in now gets more than further southeast where I grew up. Early fall is about the only season I miss those few years I lived in New England. If only I could take a long weekend off from school in early October I could enjoy the NC mountains in their splendid fall gown.

Another beautiful Autumn day here, and my green and red maples are only just beginning to change to their Autumn colours,,would be great if they weren't Deciduous...wouldn't they look great poking through the frost and snow?..

It's a shame that all the colourful leaves soon will fall on the ground. You are right, it would be wonderful to see them through the frost and the snow.
