Is there something going on behind my back?

I did not really put any weight on it at first but after a couple of similar incidents, I really think something is going on behind my back at work. Our senior manager send messages to my lower rank staff to ask about something that should have been my concern as the head of the particular department under his command. I placed it to something arising on an occasion of my staff's visit to his office for signature of some reports. However, when after some weeks similar incident occurred even when I was there at the office. He could have called my attention but instead send for my staff instead. I had a feeling that my staff is trying to impress our senior manager but I hope not at my expense. I discovered her keeping my files (saving important files to her pc). I can understand her need for attention but as it is, she cannot even write a legititate formal transmittal letter. She follows instruction well but lacks the necessary writing skills of a simple secretary. I don't blame her though for trying to impress our boss. I am a performer but I don't go out of my way to impress our boss. I just do my thing. Maybe that irked him..what do you think?
