Have you heard of texting syndrome?

Text messages may seem harmless enough, with flurries of “Yo’s,” “Sups?” and “I heart you’s.” Send 100 text messages a day – which the average teenager does - and you could end up with carpal tunnel syndrome, and an appointment with a surgeon’s knife.
Have you heard of it ?

I could not imagine typing out 100 texts per day, although I have no doubts that many do. I find text speak deplorable and always type out a message correctly, but typing a message on a mobile phone is such a nightmare that most of the time I would simply telephone the person and speak to them directly.
Nowadays people seem to spend hundreds of pounds purchasing a top of the range mobile, then make around 2 calls a year on it.

@Salamnda My neighbour is one of those people. I have seen him text a message to his friend and wait for a reply, then respond again and so forth. He will happily hold a long conversation this way, whereas I would rather use the mobile for it's original purpose and speak to the person instead.

I suppose the young can be stupid and get away with it. Carpal tunnel syndrome could be a serious side effect but there are other things that are concerning too. A picture I've seen long ago of Chinese girls standing outside their school, no one talking, everyone texting stayed in my brain. Is this truly a social change in society.

I only use my mobile to send serious message unlike these nerds who have nothing better to do.

Yes, I think the risk is real.
The teens do not realize that they are building up habits that will hurt them when they get older. They think that they are smart and invincible.
Sometimes I think that modern technology changes us into robots who do not know how to communicate with each other face to face.

The only texting I do is with my daughter, and then we don't text everyday, like we talk. It is nice to have the text feature though, as sometimes she wants to tell me something, so she will text me instead of calling. I have never heard of texting syndrome at all. I suppose it is possible.
