Making Excuses, or Making Things Happen?

It occurs to me that one thing I am very good at, is finding an excuse. There is always a reason that things don't get done as they should. The truth is that most of the time I have no one to blame but myself.
Sure, life throws obstacles in my path everyday, but maybe I should concentrate more on going over and around them than simply sitting down and saying "I can't do this, that great big thing is blocking my way".
I was watching a video of Helen Keller this morning. Helen Keller was left blind and deaf following an illness when she was just 19 months old. She never heard or saw anything from the time she was a baby. Yet, when the right teacher - Anne Sullivan - came along, she learned sign language, and braille and even became a famous lecturer and inspiration to others born with blindness or deafness.
And yet, she never learned how to speak normally. She tried to imitate the way people placed their lips and tongues when they spoke, but her speech was difficult to understand. And that was the greatest disappointment to her.
Think of it. She could not hear people speaking, she could not even hear herself speaking, but she wanted desperately to speak normally to others. With all of the difficulties and obstacles in her life that she had already overcome, her greatest desire was to communicate with others in a way that was most normal to them.
Helen Keller is one of those people who make you realize that you can make excuses, or you can make things happen. But you can't do both.

There are always excuses for things that we do not like to do. I kept saying I had no time for stitching. The fact was that I never liked stitching.

I often end up making excuses if i'm reluctant in doing something. Its amusing how easily you convince your brain that you are not supposed to do something.

@Rollo1 I am backing on that. This is how we can probably make things happen.

yepperz, excuses get'cha nowhere but disappointment 'n tends to be a recurrin' cycle which wears on ones self-worth. ms. keller was most blessed to've ms. sullivan come into her life 'n possess not only the knowledge, but the patience to break through those barriers. jest imagine how many folks're out there who're locked inside 'emselves, not 'avin' the correct person(s) come 'long to help 'em open those doors. brilliant individuals with so much knowledge, whit 'n compassion....

I think it's a sad thing to contemplate. We all naturally have these words and expressions to tell the world how we feel and sight and sound to find out about the world. It must have been a very lonely world for Helen before Annie Sullivan arrived.

When I set my mind to something I"m pretty good about getting it accomplished. There are times I want to give up because it seems overwhelming, but I always push through and get it done in the end.

All of us are good at making excuses.
I think the successful ones are the ones who are too busy trying to make things work, and they have to no time and no energy to make excuses.
After all, we only deceive ourselves when we make excuses.
We could have used our time and energy to better our lives.

It is a lot easier to make excused than to do things right away. I am even guilty of doing that. I think every one is.![](/Content/images/emotes/happy.gif)

That does make a person give a second or third thought to things. We all have the same amount of time in the day and we need to use it as best we can to go where we want to go.
