Ever Thought Of Doing Daily Mass?

Earlier today this thought suddenly came to mind. Maybe because I wasn't able to go to mass this Sunday because i was too tired and still feel sick that I thought maybe I should go to mass everyday after work for the heck of it. Did you know that early morning mass usually last 30 to 45 mins only as opposed to Sunday mass? I found out about it last week since I had free time to spare. I was kind of "shocked" that the mass ended really fast and then another one came right after it. Of course a different priest officiated each mass one after the other. That was 3 masses in a row. I caught the end of the first one, completed the 2nd one and heard the start of the 3rd one. Anyway so I looked for some online articles and I saw only very few people go to mass everyday. (Well, those who post about it online that is.) One had been doing it for 3 years and another I found have been doing it for about 3 months I think? I wonder if I could do it for even 2 wks. I should start today and see what'll happen. Would you even consider going to mass everyday for a certain time period?

If you miss the Sunday mass, you will hardly find a church having a daily mass in France. There is only one in my city having a mass at midday, all the other have only masses on Saturday or Sunday. Priests are old here, and many churches in the countryside have no more priests. The time of "stoup's frogs" (we call churchy persons like this here) is behind.

Wow really? I think there is a shortage of priests nowadays even here in our country but definitely not in the cities... What is the main religion in France then? Are you mostly Protestants?

@topffer Oh that's good to know then. We also have some foreign priests around here sometimes. I've seen an Indian and a Chinese one already. Btw, why "stoup's frog"?

@owstalaga It has always been a Catholic country (France was called "the elder sister of the Catholic Church) and there are still 90% of Catholics. There is more than a shortage of priests here : half of young priests are coming from other countries (mainly from Africa).

I hardly go to temples anymore. I have this perspiration problem. I would hate others staring at me there. But some sermons that I have heard are good. Having said that, most are just repeats. I would rather priests spend time making god interesting. We live in a different era, and merely reading holy books is not enough. They need to cite examples, and show answers in scriptures. That way we can relate to books, gods, and religion.

I guess it all comes down to finding that right church or temple. I too don't like to go to church especially if the priest is not that good with his sermons. But sometimes if I can tolerate where I go I just go and listen and take in what's good then dump the rest that I don't agree on.

I am more spiritual than religious.I believe in humane works than spending time praying.

That's good too. I find I am unable to do much humane work as I'd like so I just go to church. Now I will try doing it 2 wks in a row! I dunno if it's gonna be good or not but I'd like to try. No harm in trying anyway.

Its not about how many masses you attend.. it is about how much the word and the sacrifice itself has changed you during each mass. Honestly speaking people don't even know the meaning of the word mass or what it is about these days.

I guess it depends on the person too. Sadly I couldn't go to daily mass because of my schedule. Maybe I'll start again one of these days.

Give it a try. I have friends who believe the benefits of going daily and make it some form of meditation. If it works work you... good luck!

Really? What else do your friends say about doing it? I think I will feel like an old lady if I do it. Maybe lots of old people will be there too.

@owstalaga majority will be. But there are a few younger goers for sure. You seem to have a strong faith.

@Beatburn I don't know. I guess it has something to do with my wild thoughts. My mind seems to be thinking all these "crazy" thoughts so I think I need more spiritual goodness. So anyway, what did your friends say are the specific benefits of doing daily mass again? Nothing?

I don't think churches around here have daily mass...it's usually just Catholics that have that.

Oh I see. I guess that's true then. Too bad I wasn't able to go to mass today because of work, was only able to go on Mon. Oh well... There goes my plan... Must make another plan.

No, I would not even consider it. I am not religious and do not believe. I am an agnostic and am an atheist. I know that some do need something and someone to lean on and that is fine. I know there is mass on one of the cable stations too.

Ah that is interesting. Yes there are also masses on cable. I still prefer going to an actual church to hear mass. Too bad I wasn't able to make it earlier. Oh well.
