Do you play a musical instrument? If not, would you have liked to?

One of my regrets is that I had never had the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument, apart from the piano. I might not have been any good, but I would at least have liked the opportunity to find out!
I had piano lessons as a child but did not get very far with them. There were no other musical instruments at home, and the same was true of the schools I went to - not even recorders!
The assumption seems to be that if you can't play the piano you won't be any good at anything else, but I really don't know if this is true.
At least I was able to sing a bit, and that is one musical instrument that nobody can give you or remove from you!

@indexer I'm thankful that I learned to play both of them in my highschool life. But now in college I can use it as one of my talents.

I think you can still learn to play a musical instrument well.
You may want to try those instruments that are not commonly seen in your country.
Perhaps those used by the Chinese, Indians or other races.
It will be fun, and you can use the new skill in parties and entertain others.

Well I bet you can play a bit of piano John as what you learn as a child usually sticks.
I learned guitar but not in school or anything just through a friend.
I do not play now anymore, but it is like riding a bike, can do it always.

I haven't had the opportunity to learn to play a musical instrument, as I was born from a not wealthy family, and I was lucky enough to be able to receive education in those times. I like listening to pure piano music, which can be said a great enjoyment for me.

I had piano lessons when I was a child but, since I had already learned to pick out a tune (and play chords) by ear, I was very impatient about learning the notes on the page. I don't think that I got a great deal from my lessons.
After that, I was very attracted to the accordion (actually, I think that what I wanted was a melodion, which doesn't have a piano keyboard and works rather like a mouthorgan) and wanted one desperately but my parents hated the sound and, instead, bought me a ukulele. I learned to play that in a rudimentary fashion and later graduated to a banjo (which I retuned so that the fingerings were the same as the ukulele). Later, I got a guitar (so I only had to learn the fingerings for the two bottom strings) and that is what I have played ever since. I also play the mandoline and the tenor banjo. All of these, to my slight regret, without ever learning to read music properly.

I took piano lessons as a child, and later on, bought a guitar and learned to strum some chords, and one afternoon, taught myself to play a song on my neighbor's violin. Although I have no trouble with the musicality of playing an instrument, I am not diligent about practice and so never really get proficient at anything.

I always loved music, but never learned to play any intrument quite good. That didn't keep me from joining a rock band, when I was at highschool. We made covers of great rock bands, Rolling Stones, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple, among others. It was nothiing serious, just for fun, but I always regret, not to get deeper into my guitar lessons, now I only play at home, in parties for friends. Still, not quite good.

I play guitar and keyboard. When I was young, I also joined the drum and lyre club. After college, I only seldom play. But now, since I have a kid, I m planning to teach him these things once he reached the age of 7 or whenever he feels like it.

I had piano lessons during my childhood. I stopped when I was 14. I can still recall my mother who was so angry at that time because I had done something she didn't like. I was sad when I stopped going to my piano class. I miss the other piano students. We played while waiting for our turns on the piano. I used to have my lessons every afternoon after school hours.
Then as time passed and because of lack of practice, I can not anymore play the piano continuously. I can only play very simple pieces for beginners. But I still can read the notes. I don't think if one can play the piano he can be good at other musical instruments..

hm think in the future these musical instruments, will all vanish and the computer will take that place in the future. But I don't thing this will give any sense of playing a musical instrument for the future man...
Everyone should learn to play a musical instrument for his /her enjoyment though he may not perfectly play it however.

I don't share your views about computers. I believe that both printed books and real music making will survive and, indeed, flourish in spite of electronics. Of course we are a bit like a child with a new toy at the moment but in due course the computer will find its true place as a tool and just another instrument with its own capabilities and limitations.

I gave my hubby an autoharp for a Christmas gift a couple of years ago. Its pretty much been sitting since. I dug it out today and amused my Mom by messing with its strings.

I learned violin for a few months when I was a youngster, but then I broke my wrist and that put an end to my musical career.
