He stood there in his room with his arms stretched out. His fingers reached out into the air and grasped nothingness as though he were grasping string. He pulled in and then he set his fingers again, like a puppeteer without a puppet. When I asked him what he was doing, he said 'I want it to flood.'
When I told him that the hurricane wouldn't reach us, and that it was turning south, he said that it didn't matter, that he would reach what he needed to. Sure enough, part of the storm broke off that night and rained heavily on our city, but when we awoke to no power in the morning, there was no flood. Despite that, we went down to investigate the water.
During the night 7 inches of rain had fallen and the water level was momentarily flood stage, but it wasn't longer than that. When I told him that's too bad, he just smiled and said that there was more to come. After going around for a little bit we headed back, and found a disturbing thing: the water was higher than when we left it.
We went on and he stayed behind, watching the water rise and seeing the resulting flood. They called it a 100 year flood, reaching a flood stage of 43 feet. Water had rained north of our position and just took that long to back up. Of course, he said that he would try it again when he could. Months later, in the spring, the flood stage was 46 feet.

I found this post interesting as it seemed very surreal and I couldn't tell if this was an actual accounting of events, a complete fiction, or some blending of the two. Either way, it kept my attention through the entire post, so can't ask for more than that, right? Thanks

It can be inferred any way the reader wants, but the picture is the day after the first when the city was really flooded. I have a whole bunch of pictures from when the city was under water.
Here's a nice picture of a car that got stuck.

@OneOfMany The funny thing about this is that I was completely unaware of the flooding going on until I saw another post talking about "The thousand-year flood" and how it was being covered by The Weather Channel. So, ya, that was me interpreting without any knowledge of the real event that had taken place. Now that I'm aware, it makes the post much more significant.

@Cleptomanx Well this was eleven years ago, but the rain they are getting recently is pretty intense too!
