Going to the hospital

Who goes with you when you go to the hospital or doctor? My boyfriend is at the doctors getting a EKG done right now. he left work and went straight there. I would of went with him. As I am doing nothing but just sitting here bored out of my mind at home. I will be with him while he gets gallbladder surgery Monday morning at 7:30 A.M. I hate going to doctors visit and hospital alone. But I do. As noone will go with me. If my boyfriend takes me. He will sit outside in the vehicle waiting. I always go with anyone who asked. As I know how boring and lonely it can be going alone. I am curious, is it normal for you or your area for people to go to the doctors and hospitals alone?

I usually go alone, unless my sister drives me. I don't mind waiting rooms if they have wifi for my tablet.

I prefer to go alone. I don't like to worry about other people waiting for me for hours.

I normally go by myself and it is great alone time. I get to sit and read a book while I wait to be seen. If I have to have anything done that would leave me unable to drive hubby comes with me.

For simple things I go alone but there have been times for example when I had that accident I needed company.

Before my marriage, I always went to the hospitals alone. However, since marriage, I have always been to the doctors with my wife. I think the wife (or hubby) should be aware of what is going on. Many a times, this helps. As in my case, the first time wife went along with me, she came to know what restrictions in my diet would be good for my health and since then, she has been keeping a better watch on my diet.

It does help when you have support within your family.

@rusty2rusty definitely. Also, the family has a right to know what you are suffering from and to what extent

I don't often need to go, but when I do I go alone. When my husband goes I go with him as I need to know what the doctor says.

I'm usually alone because my husband will go home and sit with the kids while I'm in the hospital. Now that the kids are a little older and the older ones can watch the younger ones he'll go with me if he can. When I hurt my ankle he was there the whole time... but when I had surgery 6 years ago he was home with the kids.

That is understandable when you have young kids. Young kids seem to get antsy in hospitals. as there si nothing for them to do.

I usually go by myself if it isn't anything major like a regular physical check up, or if I am sick. But, if it's like blood work (which I sometimes go by myself) or x-rays if my boyfriend can tag along, he will. But sometimes he can't as he has to work.

I prefer going alone for the most part, unless I'm in the middle of a bad flare and need to have my husband drive me to my appointments. He'll usually sit in the waiting room if he goes with me. When it comes to hospital stuff, it depends on whether the kids are at school. If they aren't, one of us stays home to watch them.

I am use to be alone when I go to mine. I tend to carry my notebook and grab a magazine while I wait.

Much of this might depend on the circumstances.

Very common here, although I personally don't like hospital visits alone. I usually go with my husband.

I don't need anyone to go with me to doc's office, but would like my wife along for the hospital, since I have not been in one since I was 19, and I would certainly go there with her.

Interesting comments about the neccissity of being online. I take a novel along and am fine.

I usually go alone as there is usually no one available to take me, as was the case when I broke my leg last September. After I got into my car with a lot of help (and screaming) I drove myself to the hospital.

I prefer to go alone is it's something like an appointment or an EKG. I would only want a ride if they are doing a treatment that I can't drive after. I am happy to bring a magazine to read.

I think it is a matter of personal preference rather than the area. If it's just a follow up, mainly discussion, one of my nieces will go with me and we'll stop at the store afterwards. When I had my eye appointment a few weeks ago, my best friend went with me. I don't really care to go to the doctor's alone at all though. Now when I had my dentist appointments, I went alone, but that's because I didn't have a choice. I don't like going anywhere alone to be honest.

For major illness, my parents accompany me. They want to hear it straight from the doctors. For minor ones, I go to the doctor's clinic alone and just inform them of the findings.

I always take hubby with me, but he tends to go alone. I think it's an individual thing.
