I was reading the responses I got at a previous post and a friend I had not heard about in a long time asked me for my health. As it is, I have a non Hodkin´s lymphoma. It has no cure but mine is now on remission. I have a wonderful life and cancer bothers me less than my aching knees. I have come to the comclusion that live is worth living if I live happy and with love around. The rest is not that important. Many times, I have people who ask me for my health. I always say that I prefer fo look around than to look at what is happening inside my old body. My eyes are not as they were, but I can still talk about a good book I´m reading or about the flowers I just saw inthe garden. My joints hurt some, but they can still stir a pot and make my grandchildren´s mouth water. And I can still write although nit as fast as I did before. I have just returned from a 3 week vacation in Aruba. I will tell you about it as soon as I have the pictures. I invited Leticia and she became the photographer. What is your view about health?

What a great attitude to have, much better than sitting around moping and expecting people to pity you. I'm so glad that you enjoy life to the full, as I do.

You really have a lovely attitude. I personally enjoy every moment of my life and make it count. I am so happy with what I have, I don't go chasing after the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow. I have some health issues.. but I never let them come in the way of life.

Sometimes the pot of gold is right in front of us, in the flower that bloomed or in the funny things our grandchildren say.

@sofssu Last year, I used up some of my extra money to invite one of my eldest grandson for vacations with me. The best part of the vacation was getting to know each other better.

Last time when my friend's dad was still alive, and I asked him about his cancer, he just said that he pretended that it was not there. He was forever cheerful, and always talked about picking lucky numbers, travelling, shopping, and eating. His cancer kept returning, and he kept warding off with chemotherapy and holiday.

@marguicha Cancer is no longer a dreadful word for us in Singapore, The rate of cancer is so high, and equally the rate of recovery is high. Our PM had cancer too. He is still serving as PM as if nothing serious has happened. I think the scary thing is not about having cancer. The scary thing is about not having medication to control it, and not having the money to pay for the treatment.

@scheng1 In my country the government is helping a lot with some catastrophic illness. It paid for part of my chemo and the insurance paid for a lot of the rest. Still, there are extra expenses that add up.

Cancer is a dreadful word for many, but not all people realise that some cancers are not as bad as others and that we must all die some day. So, why not make the most of our lives meanwhile!

I have my moments of sorrow, as everyone, but I know that life is better if you look at it in a positive way.

I try to look beyond my own health complaints, too. You can live a long time or a short time, but to be really living is what counts.

@marguicha That is true, Marguicha. A whole lot of negativity isn't worth as much as even one moment of pure joy.

I like your positive attitude. I just heard something the other day: I have fat. I am not fat. I just have fat. Same with cancer: you may have that issue but you are not it.

I once told someone that I have cancer (among other things) but that I´m not cancer. I don´t like to be judged by any one of my single characteristics.

I don´t look at myself as an inspiration for anyone. Now, last year, Joan Baez came to Chile and I went to the concert she gave. You should have seen that 70 and more lady dancing and singing!!! THAT was an inspiration. I ended up in tears.

Health is what you choose. It is knowledge that you need to take care of the body and how to go about it. Knowledge is power.

My view about health is that if I had less stress, then not only would I be a lot happier but also a lot healthier.

@marguicha I agree. I hope that the situation will change within the next year or so, but for now all I can do is to make the best of it and try my best to stay positive and upbeat.

we should naturally hold on to our health as much as we can. I'm overweight and I have high blood pressure, but lots of energy and stamina. Glad your lymphoma is in recession.

Thanks, friend. I should do some dieting myself too. But I would not start it while in vacatiom. Now I am eating less.

I always wonder if there is anyone in the world completly healthy.Or ill, for that matter. Apart of how we feel is how we face the day.

I think that to feel sorry for ourselves is a big illness in itself. To begin with, our immune system goes beserk.
