House or Apartment?

My parents and I have always preferred to live in a house. Even when we didn't have our own house, we used to rent independent houses. We have never liked the concept of apartments where neither the roof is yours nor the floor! You have to follow too many rules and would never feel like its your own home! You even pay a certain monthly amount as maintenance charge, which I don't prefer. What do you think? Do you prefer a home/villa or an apartment?

I always preferred living in an apartment, or flat as it is known here in England. When my current home was being built I visited the show house and enquired about flats, which were apparently all sold. I agreed to look at a house but without much interest, but I really liked this house when I saw it. I have now been living in a house for the past 16 years.

I totally agree, @buddha3 I have been renting in various towns for most of my adult life. When younger, it was mainly shared apartments because it suited my lifestyle. I've moved further away from large cities/towns with each move until, for the convenience of my sons, moved back into a larger town with lots of facilities - and neighbours. The last son is flying the coop with me tomorrow. I started the move to my dream rental today. It is a 3 bedroom renovated farm house in the middle of a cattle farm, river flowing past, verandahs, cows, no near neighbours. It is idyllic and I can't wait to finish moving in tomorrow

Oh my God! As I imagine your new house, I'm starting to envy you!! The description itself is so picturesque that I'm eager to actually see how it looks.. Hope you will share the pix of your new place soon with me :) I would love to live in a place like yours with Cattle and other animals with me, and less of humans around :D I like the river flow, especially :)

I prefer a house and never liked apartment or villa or condo. This is why my husband and I worked hard to get our own house and we have already paid it in full by God's grace.

Congratulations!! It really feels great to have earned our own home where we can live carefree without any restrictions.

I live my whole life in an apartment. I prefer the higher floor, so that I can see as far as possible. The maintenance fee is cheap because many people share in the cost of maintenance. If you live in a house, you have to pay for everything. That means you have to pay for your own rubbish collection, but in an apartment block, the cost is shared among all.

It also helps in that we have a chance of being one among a closely connected families living in a block. But that could also be otherwise - I have seen people not talking to each other in a single block :D

A house rather than an apartment flat so I can make more noise and own more stuff. My ideal home is a library with a bedroom attached

Isn't it the very beauty of owning an independent house? We get to be the way we want.. and we can keep changing things in the house.

I've lived in both. While you can do just about anything you like in your own home without getting any landlord mad, you also have to pay for all the repairs needed yourself. Course, I know of renters that have the hardest time getting their landlords to fix certain things that break down, but at least those living there don't have that expense. So, there are pros and cons on both sides. Apartments here are much smaller than most homes with not as much storage space.

I like houses too. I have ltos of reasons to prefer them. To begin with, I live in a country with earthquakes and I want to be able to run to the garden. But aside from that, I love to do my own gardening. Even if it is not perfect, it is mine.

HI friend, Individual house/own house make a huge difference and feeling. I prefer individual over apartments, though I never stayed in an apartment. I don't like the restrictions laid on my living which we find many in apartments.

I live in a house now; but before kids, I have always lived in an apartment and it's not a bad idea to live in one again when my kids are on their own.
