A story that lives in history, and evidence of the Homeopathic Principle,of 'Treating like with like' actually works! In the annals of history, a chap called Mithridates VI, was so paranoid, about being poisoned, by persons unknown, he took to taking tiny doses of poison, throughout his life, to build up his immunity, to what he was convinced, would be his impending doom. The Irony sets in, when he was finally captured by the Romans, he determined to kill himself, with poison, not wishing to be subject to their treatment and torture...unfortunately, due to his Homeopathic administration of said poison, his system had become immune and so the poison had no effect, and his attempt at death, futile! Never take Homeopathy lightly, even miniscule doses, do make a difference, as Friedrich Samuel Hahnemann, set out to prove!

One difference is that Mithridates really was taking the substance in question, but the vast majority of homeopathic "remedies" are so diluted that they do not contain a single molecule of the "like" that is supposed to make the difference. Homeopathy only works as a form of faith healing - it has absolutely no basis is physical reality - how could it?

It is not necessarily just "faith healing" but it really does have a basis in science, although admittedly it is a limited application. It can be used effectively to treat asthma, especially severe asthma, in certain people that have a reaction to a wide variety of triggers. It obviously will not cure the asthma entirely, but it does help reduce sensitivity to specific triggers.

@purplealabaster Not as limited an application, as the poisonous 'symptom' prescriptions, people are happy to swallow on a daily basis, which in no way treat the underlying cause, homeopathy attacks the bigger picture...

@indexer ...so how many 'faith healing, homeopathic remedies' have you actually tried, to make such a blanket statement?

Makes sense to me, but how would someone become immune to flu if there's no real way to get just a little flu? Just had to throw that out there for the fun of it.

Care to share @bookbar? I don't do meds, but home remedies I will, they've proven safer than chemicals. I also don't go to doctors unless I break a bone that needs to be set.

@rebelann It's called "Prevention of Influenza and Common Colds"...I order online from Nelson Pharmacy, online or Helios Homeopathic Pharmacy..these are both UK based, but presumably ship worldwide...if you can't find it in the US...good luck..many Homeopaths will make a remedy up for you, if you shoot them an email.

@rebelann...Actually there is a Homeopathic 'flu remedy, which I take every year, as opposed to poisonous 'flu jabs, obviously it can't cover every new strain as it arises, but does a pretty good job of protection from most known.

Now that does qualify as unlucky. It must have been difficult to obtain the poison while in captivity, which would have made it even more annoying to him.

There were other important people in the past who did the same fearing to be poisoned. As a matter of fact, no matter which medicine you take, after a certain time, it has no more effect.

It can be a very dangerous practice and should not be done without consulting a qualified doctor to make sure it is safe.

For me my bible is the Materia Medica which i religiously follow apart from reading what I can on the Net. I believe in homoeopathy and it has come to our rescue including our pets many a time.
