Do not donate your garbage

One of my biggest pet peeves is when people donate things that no one can use. They donate clothes that are stained or the zippers don't work. They donate puzzles with missing pieces and books with ripped out pages. It helps no one when these items are donated.
If someone buys these items not realizing they are in the condition they are in then they are wasting their money when they get it home and find it us unusable.
If someone gets these item into their thrift store for free and finds they are in terrible shape and cannot sell them then they have to pay to throw them away. I pay $3 a bag to throw my garbage away so when others are too cheap to do that it really irritates me.
What set me off writing this post and finally being fed up enough about this to write was getting a juicer and going to use it recently and finding that there is no blade inside it so it is absolutely worthless. Great now I have to pay to throw it away because someone else decided to donate it instead of paying to throw it away themselves.
I personally know people who donate items that are in terrible shape so maybe when they see my rant on facebook or here they will think twice next time them go to donate things.

Most thrift shops here have a list they give you of what they won't take. Goodwill does take clothing and linens in bad shape if you put them in a separate box and mark it "fabric." I think they can get money for recycling it.

Around here people just drop off anything in the drop off bins that they don't want anymore. Even if there are signs saying what they won't accept people still drop it off anyway. It is really something that bugs me. Its very inconsiderate of them. That would be good in the goodwills are able to recycle the fabric and make money on it. I know once around here the salvation armies and churches were looking for stained clothes to be used to put inside material to make sleeping bags for the homeless.

I am sorry about the juicer.

I know what you mean. Sometimes I agonize over whether to donate an item or not. I have been glad to find a replacement carafe for my coffee machine at the thrift shop though. So I am glad that person didn't throw it out with the coffee machine that I assume didn't work.
