Young Nancy was nice but naive, Whatever men said, she'd believe, She did not know How to say no, But when babes arrived, guys would leave. If anger and spite a man shows, Is rude with an arrogant pose, There is no doubt He will find out, That many a man's mouth broke his nose. A young girl had downed a few beers. Went up to a bloke and said ''Cheers'', What he didn't say Was that he was gay, So her antics fell on deaf ears. I just found out that it's National Poetry Day in the UK, so I thought I'd bash these out before the day finishes. I know that poetry leaves a lot of people cold, but I think that perhaps limericks are for people who don't like poetry. What do you think? Original limericks by Jabo

Limericks are meant to be fun, and you always capture the fun in any thing you rhyme about.

That is so true. They always bring at least a smile if not an outright laugh.

Ha ha! And once again I can think of a "real" person that fits into each of those limericks! Limericks are short and sweet - gets right to the point!

@jaboUK Most of my connections from that site are not here but I would want my poems to be appreciated without anyone knowing me. The consolation is you a great writer always have something nice to say about my poems and that says a lot too.

@allknowing I'm not saying that people just support me willy-nilly, I'm just saying that some people know and like my work from the other site, so they will come and look at it here. No matter how good our work is, we need to have people come to read it, don't we?

@crazyhorseladycx It means a lot to me that you like my stuff, Crazy. I agree that some of the 'poetry' out there doesn't qualify as such in my opinion, but each to his own. I did wonder about putting limericks on this site, but thought that there were perhaps enough people from the other site who do like it, for it to be worthwhile.

Those made me smile, as usual. I particularly liked the last one. And yes I like the 'classic' style of poetry too. Have you heard any of the poetry on Radio 4 today? They are having a whole series of British history through poetry sort of thing.

I missed this....and only the other day was wondering when you'd write some more....The are very good. And because I am a sucker for happy endings.... Poor Nancy, the men wanted only fun and games Wouldn’t give the babes their names But who knows what the future will bring? She may yet get her wedding ring When Mr Right puts the others to shame. And makes her a happily married wife

@spleendingo1 A book? Where did you hear about that? It's on the back burner at the moment, as I'm not convinced that a whole bookful of poems would go down well. Anyway, I couldn't be bothered to do it myself, but my daughter is keen and might do it when she's got time.

@jaboUK Books of poems sell well enough, at least from what I've read on different sites. The self publishing thing is a little difficult though for a first timer. I downloaded a document about how to get your book from Word or Doc to an e-book format. I'm not sure what half the words meant lol

And why do some people don't like poetry, my dear Momma? They should think deeper & read more of it. There is a certain beauty in poetry which I just can't put into words, especially if you were the one who wrote it. Gosh! I will always be a fan!

@jaboUK Poppa doesn't like poetry too, my dear Momma? Oh, why? He should see the poem my dearly beloved composed for me on my birthday! Too bad I can't share it here because it was in our dialect. But, it was a great poem, my dear Momma!
