I feel like breaking a rule...

...but I won't. I read the rules, I read them a few times. Most recently I read the one about not criticizing people for their poor grammar and that some try to improve their English here. That's all well and good. So I won't talk about anyone on this site, I'll make it a different site, anyone, it's the same on most. Here goes: When you type the word "I' it should always be capitalized. Correct: I went to the store and I didn't buy a thing. Wrong: i went to the store and i didn't buy a thing. We should all use proper grammar especially if it is our first language. I realize that texting has almost forced people to use faulty grammar but it sets a poor example. Kids are graded on their grammar in school, not on their texting.

You know, some people's hands don't work very well, and holding down the shift key and hitting the I at the same time can be difficult for them. I don't believe that anyone doesn't know how it should be done, just that arthritic hands can't manage very well.

That may be an 'excuse' for some, but it's mostly the young ones who do it.

As long as I understand what the person is trying to convey, I don't have a problem if they make a mistake.

I don't think it is a mistake, it happens every time they post. Believe me, there are some I'm still trying to figure out what they are saying.

@Susan2015 I can understand most of it, but I think people should aim a little higher.

i use small caps in informal sites like these, but do check my grammar, spelling, paragraphing and punctuation so people don't get confused reading the same line, or run out of breath because of run-on sentences. but when i submit my own posts, yes, i do it properly. small caps is my way of unwinding and talking casually because i have to constantly watch my english at work.

Run on sentences are awful. You do run out of breath just reading them.

I try to use proper English. Sometimes I miss correcting something that I wrote. That might happen to others to.

When the 'I' is a small 'i' all through a post then it isn't a typo.

Using "texting" like writing is against the rules, so I am with you "I" should always been capitalized, I believe that some users know, but they are too lazy to press the key.

@AbbyGreenhill They should make an effort. I have noticed that some do not even use punctuation. They stop the phrases without a period and start the next without a capital letter. I am sure that the Admin would not appreciate.

@LadyDuck I wonder if those that are so poorly written get del by admin.

I guess speed takes over at times, but when they do it over and over it's just lazy.

Sometimes it's laziness on my part, well and if I am on my cell, editing can be difficult

I don't know how anyone can type on a cell phone...I had the hardest time just setting my phone up - I don't text for that reason.

@AbbyGreenhill I have a nice sized on, and will use it when I must, but it's not great for typing to much. I happen to have speech text, so if I am alone I can dictate a text message, but cant do that around people, you end up sounding nuts.

@Jessicalynnt Since typing was my livelyhood for 35 years, I type. I could use that voice thing it's on my computer, but what would be cheating.

Sometimes working on a tablet makes strange things happen on here. I'm a teacher and hate errors - however, I realise on here things happen for all sorts of reasons.
