45 That is a picture of my take out "Teriyaki Salmon & Snow Pea" Sumo Bowl lunch! (Well, can't really see the delicious salad, can we? Trust me, it's inside that take away box!) Have you been or heard of this franchise? They have a huge variety of made-fresh-to-order salad. On top of their already extensive range of menu items, we can DYO or Design Your Own salad! There are seven steps to DYO; we have to pick a size, base, basics, extras, protein, herb, and finally, dressing! Picking a size is probably the simplest step with can only be either Regular or Large. But the rest can be quiet bewildering with so many options within each step. The basics, for instance, range from Almond Slivers to Walnuts and 20 more different items in between.

I have never heard about this chain. We have nothing similar, our country is too small, if you want a salad you have to buy the fresh ingredients at the supermarket and make it yourself.

The franchise may have started in America - but I'm not exactly sure...

@gudheart I don't think it is - at least not in the near future, it seems... And I was wrong in my previous comment, the franchise was born right here with the first store in Sydney in 2003...

I've never heard that chain! I looked it up quickly and I guess there is one in Torrance out here. I've been to similar salad places like that - one I remember in particular at a local mall - I loved "creating" a salad with greens and tuna with their caesar dressing - something I ate a lot of when I was pregnant with my son!

Yeah, it's quite recent - only started out here in 2003 and the one in Torrance I think is the only one in the entire US of A...

@sishy7 Oh, is it? We don't go out that way too often, although that's the happening place for the more authentic Japanese stuff. If we ever go to Torrance, I'll have to try that Sumo Salad . . . what would do you recommend for a first timer?

@much2say Oh my, their menu is so extensive and they all always look or sound good to me - I don't know what to recommend... I did love the Teriyaki Salmon that I got though - it comes with some brown rice so it's quite filling for a lunch meal...

Some supermarket salad bars here let you pick a plastic box you can then fill with the fresh salad or a few meats you wish - as long as you can close the lid on the box you can get as much as you want into it. If you want more you just get a bigger sealable container. I sometimes use such services for lunch.

Oh, I love salad bars... I'd go to places like Sizzler and be happy with just having their endless salad bar...

Yes, I make my own salad most of the time. Once in a while I treat myself of this take out salad...

Yes, somehow take away salads taste better than if I make them myself at home - at least that's how it is for me...

We don't have anything like this here in my area but being able to design your own is very appealing to me

However way we design it, we can't really go wrong as they only have healthy ingredients available...

Sounds great - get the stuff you like and avoid the ingredients you don't.

Yeah, designing our own salad bowl is the opportunity to do exactly that.
