Who do you connect with?

Being so new and so busy this week its been hard to get back to mylot to figure out how this site works.
I'm busy because there is a three day art and craft show starting tomorrow morning so I will not be around much until its over.
I finally figured our what the comments and responses means and I have visited all of those left some on my posts. (haven't gotten to all of today's yet I also returned comments that were left on my posts. I will continue that because that is "only fair".
Just today I got notifications that several people connected to me. I didn't remember ever seeing their names before so I clicked on their names. I saw several posts on each one's page but not one comment, response or like was listed.
So my question is: Are people just joining and collecting "friends" without being one first?
I find that so excessively unfriendly. I want to be friends with people who I know will read my posts, like them and comment. When that happens I return the favor. I want to be friends who I know from other sites who I recognize by their photo or their connection. I go to their page, and return that kindness to them.
Social media has always been a give and take.
Who just joins and starts to collect names without reading, liking and commenting? I know on another site It took me a long time to remove those slackers - over 2000 of them over three years.
Why? Does anyone know why some people do this? I know none of them will read this because...they just want connections with no work or friendship...oh well.
Their loss. Not mine.

The site pays for interaction, on your posts and your interaction on others' posts. You can effectively earn here without posting anything. You would probably earn more by just interacting without posting than you would by posting without interacting. So, in the end, the ones who just post and post and never interact won't do as well.

Oh, that is good news indeed! I tend to comment more than post so MyLot is going to be a better fit for me than Bubbz. YAY

You are right I might have jumped to the wrong idea. It just surprised me but after that other site with 2000 connections that never graced my posts I should have known better. I'll be kinder in the future...or at least quiet about it..Thanks for the reminder ( it must be because I'm tired.)

@PainsOnSlate I know I'm naive sometimes, but I do like to give people the benefit of the doubt. These people may indeed turn out to be what you fear. Good luck with the craft show - I forgot to say that.

@jaboUK Today was day two of the craft fair and it was windy. Not complaining, there were thousands looking and buying on both days. Tomorrow is Thanksgiving, it should be a busy day.

I have over 100 followers... that number used to be much much bigger before Mylot stopped paying awhile ago (then they started again recently) so I'm guessing a lot of people deleted their accounts.
I follow 62 people... of those not even half of them have returned after the whole not-paying thing.
I'm rather picky about who I choose to follow because I don't want to be drowned by discussions that I'm not interested in. Those that I follow are because I do like their discussions and want to be able to find them easily.

@dodoazo I now understand that connections really don't do anything for the average person. I have been deleting those i accepted in the beginning because I thought that was what we do here. I get too may people connecting who haven't even written a discussion yet... So strange to connect just because you can. I want my connections to mean something.

@dodoazo my 'xperience with folks like that is they're most brilliant with their writin', jest fear if'n they don't do such 'perfectly' they might be ridiculed fer such 'n thus refrain. i feel fer 'em 'n wish they'd jump in 'n get their feet wet, so to speak.

Hear, hear! I've only been here a few days but already it is apparent who is only interested in their own productivity. Clues: 'Suggesting' every post they've written; 60 posts, 60 responses, 200 comments - or in other words, only contributing to their own discussions. Cheers.

@troyburns I think the 'suggest' button is a good feature. I'm happy to receivethem from my friends, it saves me time as I don't have to hunt them down. You can always ignore them if you don't want to read them. I suggest both my own and other people's posts, but only to those that have suggested to me, or who are my really special friends.. That way I don't think I'll get on anyone's nerves, as I'm aware that some people don't like it.

@jaboUK - The suggest feature is a good one, but some folks are abusing it, I fear. My comment is based on the sad realization that the two people (ex-following) who are suggesting everything THEY write to me are also the two with the highest responses to comments ratio. They are both happy to comment on their own posts but not so good at responding to those written by others. And yeah, I'm ignoring them both now. Feel free to suggest any of your posts to me, although it isn't really necessary. You're a regular on my fly-by list.

I bow to my friend Jabo's thoughts. Often I speak too quickly but thank you too for commenting, I find we are both newbies and thinking the same thing, and that's OK.

I'm still feeling my way around this site. I was a member years ago, but left when they stopped paying. Apparently my account was still kept open though, so all I had to do was ask for my password, which I had forgotten. But it's not really like it used to be. Years ago, we could put banners and stuff on our profile (I THINK that was on Mylot!?) And there were different ways of interacting and earning. Anyway, I have to figure out how to do things like follow other members, etc. It took me a while just to figure out how to respond to a post!

This site is completely different, we earn not only for the comments we collect, but also for those we leave and for the interaction. In my opinion this is much better, because we do not have to care so much about those who connect with us and never show up.

People might select someone whose opinions or discussions they enjoy. If there is well formed dialogue then that person might be a likely person to help them earn in the future.

@dodoazo If you go for quality rather than quantity on this site, then you are more likely to fall in line with the main point of being here. :)

@dodoazo I go to my follow list, and if they are too new and don't have a lot to offer, I might not follow them back. If they have shown good traits, then I have no problems.

@dodoazo i so agree with you. I'm sure there are a thousand different ways and reasons to connect. I've found for me they way to go is to love the ones who comment on my posts.

I would hazard a guess that many of those that just friend random people are trying to get more people to read their posts. I only friend people that have commented on at least one of my posts and I like what I read on their page. I like the interaction and that's what I friend for.

@PainsOnSlate Of if you look at their activity and the only posts they comment on are their own, then they're not worth the effort.

Hi there, I'm here from Bubbz too. Just trying to learn the ropes. Tonight I learned how to find people I knew at B, and how to respond and like. I wish there was a way I could tell this site that I like MyLot! So much more user-friendly! Nice to meet you, and to see so many of my old buds from B again.

Just think about it this way, they like your post and no words could come out from their mind to respond to your beautiful post right. I do it sometimes coz nothing comes out and everything has been said . but on the otherhand.A simple yes or no or maybe would do right?

I am a wordy person and saying yes or no is not what I would do. I would babble on long enough to bore someone to sleep, but that is the way I am. I thank you for your comment and hope we interact often.

@PainsOnSlate Thank you for figuring this out a little more today. I made one brief post but will get more done soon. I usually have a lot to say. I wrote lots of posts on Bubbl---. To bad could copy and paste them on here but I know that is not allowed. Not only that, I have new subjects in my head waiting to fly out, hahaha
