The twins are being potty trained. They will be 4 on October 19th. Every time we have tried to potty train them in the past they have resisted. Fortunately they are doing very good this time around. They even sleep through the night without wetting the bed (usually). One major problem is the #2 issue. They have not quite gotten that down yet. Its ok though, we have lots of underwear for them to wear and we are blessed with a washer and dryer. I do hope that before winter gets here that they fully grasp the entire thing.
Are your kids potty trained? Did you find it hard to train them?

As you know I don't have kids, but listening to the moms I've known over the years I've always heard how hard it is until one lady who started working with us a couple months before I retired told us how she simply let her kids choose their own time to train, what I wonder is just how hard is it to train kids to want to use a toilet? Doesn't wet undies start to bother them as they get older?
Hey, I'm stickin with potty trainin furbabies, it seems much easier

@rebelann Oh no they don't like stinky pants. As soon as they go either #1 or #2 they come right away and tell us. It does stink but I just wash the undies out just like I would if they were wearing cloth diapers. I normally wash a small load of undies every day.
I have a dog question for you. Sandy has always been an outside dog but with the fact that it is going to be another cold winter and she is getting older I want to bring her in the house. I am sure I would not have to worry about potty training her but how easy do you think it will be to keep her inside without her freaking out?

LOL wet undies are working on them. They go potty for #1 very good. Now if they could just get #2 down. I am so proud that they are even making it through the night as well.

Oh that's really gotta stink @Shellyann36 but I'm sure even that has to be uncomfortable and soon they'll not like having sticky pants.

It is said that potty training starts around 18 months to 3 years. Sad that you are still struggling. . My neighbour's child gave her trouble. He would climb up to reach for pampers in the cupboard (lol)

@allknowing the twins would do that as well. I tried to keep diapers around for when they went to sleep at night and for when we had to go somewhere but since they knew the diapers were in the house they would run to get a diaper instead of putting on the underwear. Now we just decided to go cold turkey. No diapers in the house.

@Shellyann36 I will be interested to see. I've heard that boys are easier than girls, but I know people who have both, and they have said that their boys were pretty easy to potty train. So i have heard both. My girls were pretty easy, but I'll be interested to see what category by little guy falls into.

My sister has 3 girls and 1 boy. She said that the girls were easier to potty train. You will have to tell us once the 8 month old starts potty training what your experience was.

@LadyDuck That seems to be what everyone else is saying too, boys are harder than girls.
I kind of think it is because the boys have been hard headed about this. Even now Elijah (oldest twin) does not even try to go to the potty for #2 where as Adam will try.

@Shellyann36 This is what I always hear, boys are harder and do not even want to try.

I tried that with my eldest, and learned that it's all about when they're ready and not when I think that they should be ready. They'll get there. So with my second one I'm not going to stress up myself too much about it.

Yes I do think that is true @cahaya1983 because the twins resisted it for so many months. Now they are really coming around.
Good luck with potty training your second child!

Thank you so much @bluesa I really need to get them completely trained by the winter. Do you plan on having any children?

@bluesa Just take your time and do the things you want to do. After you have kids you are somewhat restricted. You will know when you are ready to settle down and have kids.

@Shellyann36 , I hope they will be, but with it only being #2 they are really struggling with, I think you will get there. No, no plans to be a Mom, not at the moment, but I guess we never know what life has planned. :-)

My oldest potty trained just after she turned two. What we found was most important was being consistent along with frequently asking her if she needed to use the potty. We switched her to regular underwear and sent her to daycare with lots of extra clothes as the teacher suggested. It really helped that she had a lot of older peers in the class with her, because she wanted to imitate them. We pretty much modeled everything we did at home on what the daycare did to keep it consistent across the board.
It's not at all uncommon for boys to take longer to potty train than girls, and I don't think you have anything to worry about with the twins. One of our friends has a son who wasn't fully trained until he was about five. Another is struggling with it with her son who just turned four.
I personally wouldn't worry about nighttime accidents as much. Sometimes kids have biological issues that cause nighttime wetting well after they're totally potty trained. They usually outgrow it, but it can be seriously embarrassing for them. It was for me, anyway... I didn't hit that point until I was about 10. Didn't help that my parents constantly berated me for it, either.
Anyway, I really hope this round goes well for you. It sounds like they're pretty close to getting the hang of it from what you've said. I'll be rooting for them.

Thank you for all of the info @yukimori the potty training is going pretty good. The issue of #2 is still a problem but they are doing so good on the #1 that I am not complaining. They do have some accidents while sleeping but that is what the mattress cover is for.

@Shellyann36 The last three were easy because of the older kids. The older three were hard.

@jstory07 I do think that it is a bit easier to train the twins because of Lil Keith. Now that they have decided to stop fighting the potty training I can see where they follow him when he goes potty. Lil Keith has started saying, "I gotta potty, you guys need to go too?". Normally they pipe up yes and go potty right along beside of him.

It's been ages since I potty trained my kids but they all caught on eventually. It seems as if one day they don't quite get it and then the next they got it down pat. Good luck with training twins!

My daughters are in their twenties now and I honestly don't remember how it went. I know I got a book on potty training in less than a day using a dolly that pees and treats, it didn't work all that well for me. they were trained around two years old, but I've heard that girls are much easier than boys for both types of training. I hope they get it as schools won't let them come if not fully potty trained. If you have problems still, try checking out what books might be around, or talk with a doctor or friend that has good ideas/suggestions.

@MarshaMusselman I have also heard that girls are easier to train than boys. My sister's 3 year old is fully potty trained. She started training her at 2 and she was fully potty trained before 3. Oh yes I want to get them completely trained before the winter months. The winter always brings their asthma attacks more frequently and I don't want to add wet clothing to the mix when they get sick.

I've found that every child is different. I am a mother of five. Each kid was different in their potty training. My 9 year old son was potty trained on time, but needed a pull up until very recently (frustrating), but he's a super sound sleeper. My 4 year old potty trained early, but still needs a pull up. My oldest potty trained at 3, and never needed pull-ups! all different. good luck

@jillybean1222 do you mind my asking if you have boys or girls or both? If you have both boys and girls, which did you find easier to potty train?

We have managed all #2s in the potty since age one. After that it was a question of frequent reminders to get to the potty often enough, I would take them to the potty every hour and we would read or look at a book or two to make it fun. No more nappies after age 2, except at night. Haven't sorted that one yet for Little One (now 3) but hope to do soon.

@Fleura thank you for the advice. We do give lots of verbal ques. I try to say something to them every 15 to 30 minutes. They are doing great with #1 and we are still working on #2. I am just happy that I don't have to buy diapers anymore! Good luck with your efforts!

My daughter was no problem but my son resisted. I lucked out when grandma came to visit and she put him on the toilet backwards and in a matter of days he was trained. I think he was around three. We flew east for the summer and I put a diaper on him and he was quite insulted and didn't use it...

I have never thought about putting them on the potty backwards. How about that! Sounds as if grandma had the key.

My twins were horrible when it came to #2.. I think it took a full 6 months for them to get that part down, and oh I got so frustrated!
I really don't have any tips, I can't remember what I did, I think I just eventually got lucky.

I think that Adam (the youngest) is going to be the easiest on #2 because he has told us he had to go and we rushed him to his frog. He also went by himself once and even though he did not make it in time he still tried. Now Elijah is a different story. He is quite happy to poop in his pants and then tell us. Even with verbal ques he still refuses to go poop in the potty.

My youngest nephew is also three going on four, and he is not potty trained yet, either. I'm not sure what my brother and sister in law are doing regarding that.

My kids are now grown but they were so different to potty train. My daughter more or less potty trained herself as she didn't like a wet diaper. She was just 1 yr old at the time. My son was a little more stubborn about it and wasn't potty trained until he was 2.

@LattesAndTypewriters thank you very much for the encouragement. We are working on it and things are going pretty darn good. The boys go #1 in the potty 90% of the time, we are just trying to conquer the #2 now.
