Had a visit today from the 2 friends that visit nearly every sunday . 2 older ladies {but younger then myself} 56 yrs. and 61 yrs. All the time they are here, they text on their phones. When I hired them to come and clean my house last week, first thing they did was plug their phones into the outlet on the kitchen counter so they could glance it now and then.
All the time they are here, supposedly to visit, it is hard to carry on a conversation with them. they are sisters, live together and constantly discuss, who text them and "look at this on FB" etc. How do you deal with that? I even said to them today " you 2 would freak if someone took your phones" jeesh I expect teens to be a little rude like that but not 2 old ladies acting like a couple of teenagers.

wait, they came in 'n plugged their phones in so they could check'n what 'twas goin' on whilst there to clean yer house?? hope ya didn't pay 'em by the hour...
i finally put a 'no phone' rulin' 't my place. young'n ol' alike. when they enter here, their phones go on the bookcase by the back door. they're only allowed to answer it if such rings. i dunno what's wrong with folks these days?? pay mind to those 'round'ja coz those others can wait 'n i'm sure nothin' earth movin' occurred to require their immediate attention.

I have heard of classrooms where kids have to "check their phones in" at the back and not have them.

Hi bunnybon7 - this is Scootermac from the other place. The behavior of these old ladies does surprise me. My mother only checks/uses her phone about once a week and I thought that was more common among the older generation. My nieces, on the other hand...

hi robin, yes I recognized the name right away. that's exactly what I thought. I like having my phone but being an older person I enjoy talking to my company more

i say let them have their fun though I do agree that it is rude of them to just text while you are there trying to carry on a conversation.
The least they could do is text you

I was tempted but I am ashamed to say I really do need them sometimes. there are times no one else can take me to the doctor, etc. since daughter left it has put me in a bind.

I have one friend who does this to me all the time. I hate it - but I tolerate "her" because she is a good friend in other ways. It's bad enough when we see each other, she has to have a laptop in front of her as she has to work - and we can't have a decent conversation because she has to put me on hold while she tends to the work on the screen - sigh. But last time we met, she kept popping out her cell phone - and I thought it was work related, but actually she was watching baseballs scores on a particular game - oh I wanted to wring her neck!!

yes my daughter does that sometimes when I am trying to talk with her about something but she sometimes makes me feel bad that I said something about it if she is talking/texting her kids about something. so I try not to say any more. those were good friends(still are) though miles away now so I tolerated it

@much2say so true. I can't even hold 2 conversations at a time. feel someone is ignoring me if the other person is not right there in the room. I imagine they would also

@bunnybon7 Til this day my friend still pulls this stuff (and like I said, I still tolerate it). If we are spending time with someone, the focus should be on that person . . . we live in a world where people think it's ok to have multi conversations just because the phone rings or there is a text notification - I think it's rude. If it's not an emergency, then these outside conversations on a gadget can wait.

FB can really be addicting to some people . That's why those with smartphones can really always be updated of who have posted amongst their connections. They're cool , because at their age they really are into FB .
Good you told them that .

Sad. People get so attached to their phones these days that they don't value face to face interaction that much anymore. It's bad enough with teenagers, but when older people do that...

@bunnybon7 That does make it a difficult situation. I am seeing more and more phone in the work place, and I am not liking it.

That could get annoying, I understand, but cut them a little slack, they probably don't realise that they're being rude. You could have a sit down with them and explain to them that it's not polite to use their phone in company.

Sounds like they are stuck in a young behavior. I would freak if they did that while supposedly working at my house or visiting.

We see them here too. Senior citizens who wears tight shirts and jeans. whether it becomes them or not they really don't care how people thinks about it. They even have boyfriends younger than they are. I pity them because they can't distinguish themselves if they in their right minds or just playing silly haha
