The last time we had this Master Chef for kids there was a day dedicated to cooking with flowers. The dishes that were turned out were fascinating. Little did I know that I have those flowers that are edible growing in my garden such as hibiscus, ixora marigold roses.......... Have you experimented with flowers? .

No, but it seems quite inevitable that many flowers will be edible as are many forms of vegetation. After all we know that orchids are used to make vanilla.

@allknowing You also need to remember to peel a cactus first because the peel can be a little harsh on the tongue.

@Asylum You are right. Unless we know the procedure one should go slow on this but flowers do have health properties.

It was fascinating to watch those kids using flowers to create great food. The only point I had in mind was to look for flowers that were not sprayed with pesticides.

Hibiscus is an edible flower? Our simple garden is with multiplicity of the red & yellow varieties of that, my dear! Wow!

Oh you have hibiscus in your garden that's great. You can use it as a oil to hair. It works very well.

Have not experimented yet but did the research and know where to get the recipes. When I was a kid I used to pick our hibiscus flowers out of our garden, tear off the petals, and suck out the nectar. What a cruel thing to do to such a beautiful flower.

Thank you for bringing back my old discussion. Sadly we are cruel to plants, flowers and trees. They I am told feel the pain.

@allknowing - Yes. I read that plants do feel pain. Now that makes me feel even worse.

I remember I wrote an article on site B about cooking with flowers. Many flowers are edible.

I was only wondering about harvesting them before they are sprayed. It is best therefore not to buy flowers but use whatever one finds in one's garden.

@allknowing I only use the flowers of my garden, just to be sure that they are not sprayed with pesticides.

Indeed I have! I particularly like to add nasturtium flowers to salads, they're colorful and have a nice peppery tang. Another favorite is stuffed squash blossoms. So yummy.

I experimented with Ixora when I was around 6 or 7 because we had a lot of those at my grandparents' house. I tried Hibiscus tea before but never tried cooking them.
