What is your biggest fear in life?

Admit it or not, we are all nurturing some silent fears inside us. The course of time may have taught us to live with them but we have not been able yet to overcome them. I won't dig into the philosophy of fear but I'll rather trigger an interesting question here to make the exchange of ideas about the word 'fear' more exciting. I have some fears too. I hide them sometimes. I face them sometimes. I have been able to overcome most of them and in the process of becoming, I am overcoming and encountering other fears. I think somehow fears are important. Conquering them is a purpose in itself - a purpose that teaches something behind just conquering a fear. What is your biggest fear in life? How are you overcoming it?

My biggest fear is not having a place to live. I am getting older and am not as resilient for the battle on the streets anymore.

What about your family? Your children? Or why don't you consider a home? It can be a good option to spend the rest of your days peacefully in a home.

Seeing my father-in-law bedridden for almost a year because of prostate cancer , i feared so much of having cancer too. That's why i eat veggies and fruits , do take vitamin supplements , anti-oxidants and natural ways to keep my cholesterol , bp , uric acid and blood sugar within the normal level always.

@excellence7 That's because i want to retire healthily and be able to travel with my husband and still see our daughter become a doctor and have her own family.

I am claustrophobic, my worst fear (do not laugh), is being buried and wake up in the coffin. It is for that reason that I asked to be cremated.

@excellence7 No, I will not, a phobia is hardly manageable.

Height and loss of my family are my fears. For the second I try to spend more time with my family, for the first i try to meditate, imagining the situation with height where i cope with fear

I am a person who is positive in thinking. I don't like to contemplate in fears. I don't like to be in fear mode. Our lives go on day to day with problems that create fears creates . Fear gives sickness and pains but just shrug it off coz you're better off without you thinking so much of it. It will turn out alright. you'll see.

But doesn't this mean that we are trying to escape the fear instead of facing it?

@Tita417 I never said that all fears can be solved right away. I meant that escapism is not the way. Facing the fear is the way. I can understand that faith, to some extent, can help you conquer your fear but at the end, it's about you and your fear. You should face it instead of giving it to God. When something bad happens to someone, that person, if he or she is a believer, will say that this is not given to us by God; this is the outcome of our own deeds. Or maybe that person will say God is giving this to us to test our faith; we must act to solve it. In the same way, we can't just throw our fears to God and wait for something to happen without an action from our side. This is the best form of escapism I would say. I think fear is something to be worked upon; over time.

@excellence7 We don't avoid it we don't ponder over it. do you think that every fear can be solved right away? I don't. that's why I don't delve into it that much . I pray and give it to God and He'll show me what to do.

my fear is to grow old and become sickly. It's okay to grow old but not being sickly. Life is hard if no enough resources for the medications, lol

It's a reality of life though to grow old. But your health when you grow old is a choice you make now by changing your lifestyle to a healthier one.

The worst fear is to be among some people we are uncomfortable with and fumbling for words and also when my words go amiss and make people around uneasy, that situation is the worst. I mean to be humiliated is the worst thing. At night, snakes (this is India) are the object of fear.

Mean dogs scare me. I try to walk past a mean dog, but I am afraid of getting bit. I try not to encounter them, but they are around.

If they bite you, bite them. That's the simplest formula to overcome this fear.
