We have a huge over grown golden delicious apple tree in our back yard. It is my parents but they don't really use the apples. I made a few apple crisps and decided to try making apple cider. I looked up a recipe on pinterest for how to make it at home. The easiest recipe I found told me how I could make it in a crockpot. It only used water, honey, apples, and cinnamon if I remember correctly. When it was done cooking in the crockpot it smelled exactly like apple pie. I put it in the blender mand I strained it with a fine metal strainer but it didn't catch enough of the pulp. The recipe said to use cheesecloth and I went to town to find it. When I finally found it the guy who worked at the hardware store told me to just use an old pillow case to strain it. He said he had made apple cidar many times over the years. So I dumped it all through the old pillow case and squeezed it through and he was right it worked perfectly and didn't cost me anything. It was too bland so I added 1/4 cup of sugar and then it was perfect I thought. My kids hated it so I drank the whole gallon by myself the past week. I added a picture of the finished result in the pitcher.

It really is cool to be able to make it like this without a huge apple press.

I love when it doesn't cost you anything! I know I go along the back roads and pick up apples all the time. I make different recipes, and never thought of making apple cider. I usually cut them up for the animals to eat.

Deer used to come every year and eat a ton of the apples on the tree. I loved watching them and taking pictures and videos through my kitchen window. We had 3 the first year. One the next year and none this year. My parents and sister were over yesterday and I gave them some to try. My sister thought it tasted like Apple juice and my mom said it tasted like vinegar lol. Its really good I think they are crazy haha. I added vodka to it the other night and that was yummy too.

It really isn't hard to make it is just time consuming. I was the only one who drank it though so unless I need it for a mixed drink or a recipe I will probably not make it again. I have a big old apple tree in the back yard that bears a lot of apples so at least it doesn't cost me anything for the apples so this was fairly inexpensive to make.

I just had some homemade apple cider this week end but I never tried making it myself even though I have two apple trees.

I had someone else's homemade apple cider recently and didn't like it as much as mine. Theirs had lots of cinnamon that hadent been strained out. I like all of it to be nice and smooth and strained out before drinking it. If you let it sit awhile before straining it the flavor of the cinnamon will be in there without having to drink chunks of it in the drink.
