I love very much to study the languages, but my mom wants me to follow the law school. I feel that I am not suitable at all for this. She doesn't understand.
I love very much to write short stories, books etc. I wrote a book and now I am waiting to publish it. This is my vocation. She said it doesn't worth it because of the money.
So what do you say ???

You can't go into something solely for the money because your heart won't be in it. I tried to go that way and it was miserable, and even with my degrees I always turn back to writing. I feel if I just had been allowed to go that way from the beginning I would be farther than I am now.
So your future is what you make it. If writing is your present, I think you will be able to make it work.

1. Your job will be the center of your life for the next 30-40 yrs ( lets say ). If the core is rotten or not firm, do you think anything built upon that ( desires, dreams, needs ) will survive?
2. Monetary aspect is one aspect sure, but fulfillment is rather more important because as a wise man once said- If you love what you do, you'll never have to work a day in your life.
3. Your parents will not be the ones doing it, you will be and just like its important to find a comfy seat when you're off to a loooong trip. So is finding a comfy job when you're off to living your life.
Explain your parents these things.
Hope this helps

@soniacostina The sacrifices of a generation are of meaning only if the next one doesn't have to make the same sacrifice as them. Is she did something she didn't like-for you; then she owes you a chance to do what you like while you owe her success in whatever you do to make all of this worth it. You have confidence, so you'll be successful. Just make her believe and the best way to do that is to give her your best writing sample.

If the first priority is to bring money into the house I suppose you should aim at that and how you do it is left to you. You can always go back to your passion once you have enough finances to fall back on.

@soniacostina As long as whatever you like to do earns you consistently and regularly all is well. Money as you know is important for our survival. .

For me, money doesn't count. I want money just for living decently and ok. If I can afford a trip or a car or buying clothes for me and my baby . It is very good. All of these will get to me by working for fun. If I do my job with passion, I will feel complete.

It doesn't really matter what any of us say. It's such an important decision for you, and only you can make it. But I will say - don't be forced into anything you don't want to do, but remember also that your mother only wants what's best for you.

It really becomes hard when a parent want one thing and you want the other. What about having someone talk to her maybe it can help
