Mutual Breakup: Is there such thing?

Mutual break up happens when two wholeheartedly agreed to end a relationship. It should also be done with mutual respect and understanding. Mutual - having the SAME feeling, decision, benefit, idea or view of point. So, is there really such thing as mutual break up? or it's always a decision initiated by the one who lost the sense of their relationship?

It is a thing. I was involved in one. Me and my gf had a beautiful 2 years of relationship but then we both agreed that we really dont belong with each other and that the things we wanna do in life are totally different. We are still friends till date even after our breakup and that too without any strings attached. So yeah, mutual breakups are a real thing!!

It takes two to tango as the saying goes. I think both parties would have a say on this even though one wants out at first but if the other gives in then maybe he wants it too. You can't also force anyone if she let's go but still I think it is a two-way relationship and that means he wants out too

I think one of them would start is first and then it will agreed by the second one. Both will not say at the same moment that we want to break up.

I don't know how to define or see any mutuality as far as breakups are concerned. Otherwise, how can we account for people writing in repeatedly into counselling columns like Aunt Agony or similar with many versions that led to the decline of their relationships, seeking how to deal with the realities and recover from such a painful ordeal. All I can say is that while it takes 2 to tango on a relationship, one party (most of the time) is unwilling to break. Check the crime rates relating to broken relationships and the bitter legal battles of child custody and marital properties - which prove more that breakups are mostly non mutual. There are simply a lot of pain and stress to deal with here.

I believe there is. It works better when two people decide to dissolve the relationship.

It is better to break up being in good turns with each other.

it takes maturity in the first place to be able to end a relationship like this. not everyone is capable to show it

I believe there is. Anyway when the other falls out of love, can the other do anything about it but to agree for the break up.
